Most Competitive Year Yet? Possibly.

One more note to add. I do have witnessed that the number of students of Asian background has been increasing on campus gradually over the years, but I think it’s just the reaction to the market condition. Why are there so many more students from NE and NY-NJ on a typical NE boarding school campus than from other parts of the country? Because there are simply a lot more qualified students applying from NE and NY-NJ. For the same reason, I can see how the enrollment of international students from China will grow in the next few years if this trend continues. Within their “international quota”, the schools may take more Chinese students and fewer students from another Asian country because the applicant pool of China is getting larger and more qualified candidates naturally come out of that pool. It doesn’t mean though market condition is all the schools react to (although some ORM’s might like that). The schools do try to diversify their student body, which is why the candidates of URM and those from under-represented areas stand a better chance of getting in if they are qualified.

I am a Chinese girl living in America and the reason so many wealthy families in mainland China send their kids to boarding school is because the families just don’t see a future for them in China. Schools in China are very competitive and students go through a selection process as early as middle school. In High school they have to take the GaoKao. If they don’t score above a some standard on the GaoKao, their college options are very limited. However, it’s not like that here in the states. There are more opportunities for the kids, not necessarily less competitiveness, but certainly less pressure.

And in case you were wondering, the GaoKao is a lot more stressful than the SATs. You can only take it once and that basically determines the rest of your life.

Cant wait for M10. Anxiety high…

although there will be plenty of decision posts up during and after M10 I still think that the people on this thread should post if they (or their child) were accepted, rejected, or wait listed at DA just for the thread  I know as soon I hear I’ll be coming to the thread!!

wrong thread my bad haha but you should also post on here if you’d like you M10 results

is there a better chance if im applying for 11th grade?

As for FA, markets at all time highs. Endowment balances are at all time highs. If the school wants you, the FA should be there

Well, would this explain why Chinese students had the lowest SSAT average among the 11 countries? (p. 7 following GMT’s link)
