I realised that there was no such thread on the forums and really think that this information is important. I can't speak for everyone, but I do know of many students who are unaware of the whether or not their major is impacted, applied to UCB, and got rejected. I had a cousin who was very passionate about computer science, he wasn't very good at his comp science courses but he believed that if he showed enough interest in his personal statement, he would've gotten into Berkeley. For the benefit of everyone who are planning to transfer to another UCB from their current college, CCC or UC, I would like to ask for some more experienced voices on this matter. Please rank them by number.

I'm going to begin school in UC Davis as a freshman this fall, and plan on majoring in Econs, and perhaps a minor in Comp Science. I've asked many people on this forum, but I'm still unsure of whether or not my minor will hinder me when I transfer two years later. On that note, how impacted is Econs?

That link just seems to give general admit rate percentages, but does not really address what is impacted. Unless I read it wrong? I think he’s looking for a list of the impacted majors.

@fullload ever heard of supply and demand??? admit rates are what determines impacted majors…

Econ is a capped major. I’m not sure how it affects the selectiveness of admission to UCB, but as a transfer you’d enter L&S undeclared. In your first semester you need to complete some pre-reqs (one of Econ 100/101 A/B and usually a stats class) with a certain GPA to declare the major. <a href=“Incoming Transfer Students | Department of Economics”>Incoming Transfer Students | Department of Economics;

As for your cousin, if I had to guess I’d say L&S CS is either harder or the same as Econ in terms of admissions. EECS (in CoE) is definitely more competitive than the L&S majors, and you need stellar grades (ESPECIALLY in CS!) to get in there.

The link music1990 posted shows you the percents accepted… unless you meant something else by impacted, that should tell you the info you’re looking for. Those with a low percentage of students accepted are more competitive for admissions.

If you’re curious about L&S capped majors (need to complete pre-reqs with GPA requirement), they’re marked on here: http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/majorlist.html

Settle down, @dagoberto. We all understand how it works, but he was looking for an impacted major list and that’s not what this is. I understand it’s implied by the percentage accepted, however it’s not a conclusive list. Many UC’s have an actual list which tells you which major is impacted. I was asking because I’d like to see one too.

@fullload didint mean to come as grumpy, I just think that I had access to only one list I would rather have the admit rates for each major rather than simply stating what is impacted…

@fullload

It’s not called “impacted” at Cal. OP is asking for the “capped” major list that includes: Art (Practice of), Economics, Environmental Economics and Policy, Media Studies, Operations Research and Management, Psychology, Public Health, and Social Welfare.

The asterisk’s indicated which majors were capped in that link.

Computer Science is a restricted major, meaning that it requires a specific high GPA to get into that major. Same applies for Statistics and Political Economy.

The link @music1990 supplied was correct as capped majors had asterisks, @fullload
