Most OVERrated and or UNDERrated Colleges in your State ?

Virginia

O: Can’t think of any

U: William & Mary, University of Richmond

Oh, that’s good to know.

Colorado…
Overrated- Colorado School of Mines
Underrated- CSU Fort Collins, Colorado College

It’s been said far enough back in this thread that it bears repeating:

Overrated: My college’s rival and/or any colleges that did not admit me
Underrated: My college and any other college that admitted me

In Georgia, believe it or not:

OVER:UGA and GaTech
UNDER: Emory (yeah. Georgians are f’d up haha)

You seriously don`t think we have any overrated schools? cough cough UVa and VT cough cough?

Underrated probably goes to W&M, possibly Washington and Lee. Christopher Newport’s newer, so definitely often underrated, but good school.

Underrated : duke… It’s one of the best schools in the country but everyone around here hates it… :</p>

Overrated: …MIT and Harvard… Most well known colleges and if anyone is smart people will say they’ll go to one of these places… Great schools but people who know nothing about college throw these names around too much.

^ You are supposed to do in your state not in the country

Georgia:

Underrated(nationally):

 1. UGA
 2. Mercer U
 3. Anges Scott
 4. Georgia College and State University
 5. Georgia State U
 6. Georgia Southern

Overrated(nationally):

 1. Emory U. Their research output is phenomenal as are their graduate medical and business programs, but their undergraduate education isn’t great for what you pay. How many times have they been caught fibbing the ranking measures?
 2. Morehouse College(only overrated among the African American community, but seeing that Morehouse is an HBCU I think it’s valid - their medical school is a mess)
 3. SCAD. I can’t believe people actually pay that much for an art degree that isn’t even comparable with the 1/4 sticker price of the public schools(who have much better programs anyway).

Then people have the nerve to complain about debt…

Schools should focus less on rank and name and more on teaching and expansion. Follow Ohio State, UGA, UF and UW’s lead. Among laymen these schools may be just the “state schools”

Go talk to employers and graduate programs and see what they think about Foster school of business(UW) or Franklin College of Arts and Sciences(UGA)

"In Georgia, believe it or not:

OVER:UGA and GaTech
UNDER: Emory (yeah. Georgians are f’d up haha)"

We’ll agree to disagree on that one! Georgia Tech and UGA certainly aren’t underrated in the least. GT a phenomenal school, and this is coming from a UGA grad and dad! Tech was recently rated number one on SmartMoney’s Rate of Returns, while UGA was rated 4th. That’s beating Michigan, Berkeley and UVA as well as all the private schools.

Fantastic public schools, both of them.

Virginia:

OVER: UVA, and maybe Tech
UNDER: W&M, GMU

GA

Overrated:
Emory

Underrated:
none really maybe UGA or Georgia State

I said they were overrated…in the sense that any and every Georgian thinks they are God but then completely overlook Emory and then trashtalk southern and state. Obviously, theyre still good schools though!! When I was accepted to UGA I went wild! Haha

UGA underrated? Maybe it’s my Californian sensibilities at work, but whenever I walk into ANY store in Georgia, be it a chain restaurant or Walmart I’m always amazed at the amount of UGA gear I see either on people or for sale. Even Subway employees wear Go Dawgs uniforms. My roommate’s valedictorian received flak for choosing Emory over UGA despite wanting to major in business (which is incredibly strong here). I have no idea about UGA’s academic qualities but “underrated” on a state level? Certainly not.

Just because Georgia has a huge fanbase doesn’t make it “not underrated”. People like the football team, but that doesn’t mean that the school gets the respect it deserves. In fact, it probably does a disservice to the school on a prestige level because it is almost solely famous because of its football team. This happens at a lot of large schools. I don’t think seeing lots of people wearing gear in Walmart says anything about a school.

Louisiana here!

At my school, LSU is grossly underrated. It’s almost like a joke (“Oh if I don’t get in anywhere I can always go to LSU”), when it is actually a pretty good school!

Everywhere else in the state, LSU is grossly overrated. People think it’s like a top-tier school…which it’s not.

I’d say Loyola is underrated and Tulane and UNO are overrated out-of-state.

No trust me, UGA is far from underrated. It’s constantly compared to UVA, UNCCH, Berkeley, UMich, UCLA and Everyone thinks its better than Ga Tech in every aspect besides engineering…or maybe it’s just my own unaspiring ignorant class.

Overrated is South Harmon Institute of Technology

Underrated is International College of Upper Pennsylvania

Georgia is not on the same level as UVA, UNCCH, Berkeley, UMich, or Georgia Tech.

Thanks for Restating what I have said twice now, Informative…

California

Overrated: UCLA, USC, UCSD. All good schools, but have big faults.
Underrated: Pomona, Loyola Marymount.
