Most underrated school on CC?

My vote goes to Carnegie Mellon. Almost nobody here gives it credit for anything even though it has spectacular programs.

Everyone here seems to despise WashU, but it’s a great school.

^^^Very few here on CC would say that WUSTL is underrated!

Underrated on CC though? Seriously, every post I read about WashU is generally negative. Perhaps I haven’t spent enough time on here or something.

aside from the college specific boards, you just don’t hear enough about UCSD, Carnegie Mellon, Brandeis and Case Western Reserve - all great schools.

and of ther higher ups, Northwestern is not discussed enough.

Kalamazoo College

I agree that its WashU. Its because of their admissions policies. They have this ridiculous standard of “must show interest” to the point that its almost the most important factor in admissions for them.

I think their admissions policies frustrate people and lead to a lot of the negative feedback, but regardless, its a great school.

Pretty much all of the top midwestern schools (Northwestern, WashU, Grinnell, Carleton) with the exception of UofC

University of Delaware. Everyone gives credit to the California schools, UVA, and UNC for being the best state schools, but UD is significantly better. It is on the cheaper side fo the spectrum, has a beautiful campus, is relatively competitive, is very competitive out of state, has tons of majors, is ranked highly in those majors, and is in a great location, being within 2 hours of Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York (and the beach!). It’s the greatest state school I’ve seen so far.

Pretty much every LAC

Berkeley…most definitely. ;)

hehe. So true!

I think many LACs are underrated. But, I’m amazed at how OVER rated the ivies are. Just look at how it’s handled here: they have their special link (just look over there on the left), then you’ll also see them listed separately when you hit “Discussion Home”. Why all that attention? Do ivy league colleges pay for that extra attention? While it is true that many students know about ivy league colleges, the undergraduate classes are about 5-12K. I think this forum should give as much focus to those schools, like some public universities, that are much bigger than further promoting an athletic conference.

I don’t know about “most underrated”, but in the “very underrated” category I would nominate UW-Madison. It is essentially an academic peer of Michigan (in most fields, anyway), but it doesn’t seem to command a fraction of the attention/respect.

University of Michigan is very underrated I think.

Don’t hear enough about Colorado College.

Yes, Colorado College is extremely underrated on this forum. People never mention it.

Case Western was a good vote. WashU is overrated on CC like no other…

Rice is always one that I don’t think gets a fair shake.

Underrated on CC is Duke, WashU, and Northwestern
Overrated on CC is the ivies, Cal, and Michigan

Underranked on USNEWS is Cal and Michigan
Overranked on USNEWS is UPenn, WashU, JHU, and NU
