warblers - Were you able to post all that from memory? LOL, I probably could've listed the departments, grad/professional schools, and things like FOCUS, but some of the largest papryology facilities in the nation? That's hardcore. :p

He is awesome 'cuz he's so insecure he has to make a new thread attacking me?

I think berkeley is good but overrated. I am just responding to his attack. Frankly I could care less about berkeley. Mr. Gentleman started all of this yesterday when we were talking about Harvard and Berkeley. i'm just trying to enjoy this site b4 he attacked me when I expressed my opinions that he was a bit biased. Now he's attacking me again with a new thread and I can't even fight back?

The thread is not attacking you. And I hope you see the irony in your calling him "a bit biased."

I'd have to say Oxford is overrated, but that's just me.

Obviously he is attacking my school because of yesterday. If you were there for the harvard vs berkeley discussion you'd see this.

Who's attacking you? I posted what school I thought was overrated and you started crying and throwing your little internet tantrum. And did you or did you not start a thread talking about how crappy berkeley is just yesterday. Your memory isn't so hot, is it?

I'm not crying I'm just saying you are insecure about your school if you have to keep attacking Duke like that just 'cause we had a fight yesterday.

I never attacked Berkeley. I only compared it with HARVARD okay?! Geez learn to read. Obviously now I'm attacking ur school 'cuz of your animosity towards mine. If u wanna end this thread and stop dissing duke then I am more than happy to stop replying but I'm guessing you won't.

WHat is the correlation between my thoughts on duke and berkeley? I thought duke was overrated long before last night. You're the one that's insecure about "your" school. Talk all you want about berkeley, I really don't care.

Yea right. You sure didn't care last night when you kept yelling at me 'cause I said Harvard was better than Berkeley. I'm sure you suddenly decided all of this especially with the crap u were spewing last night. Go on and keep creating anti-duke and pro-berkeley threads. Most people can see through ur veil and besides warbler has already answered your question on why Duke is amazing.

Good night.

Guess what? I think Harvard is better than berkeley too! I never said it wasn't. Nowhere in this or any thread have I said that berkeley is better in any way than harvard. I think duke is overrated. I've thought that for a long time. THIS IS MY OPINION. This is not a fact. If someone cared to tell me why its not maybe my mind would change. If someone comes here and cries about being attacked and doesn;t mention any reason to think duke is worthy of its ranking then I will not change my mind

I don't think Duke is overrated.

I don't know if Duke is overrated or not... It's kind of a regional school (in terms of where its really well known). People on the East Coast know about Duke and consider it an amazing school. However, I'm in Hawaii and I'm embarrased to say this but I'd heard of Duke only vaguely and I always thought it was a public school... I'm not saying it's not a great school because reading more about it and seeing the rankings, it obviously is. However, none of the top students at my high school applied there. West Coast kids look more at Berkely and if they are going to go east usually pick a school like an Ivy/ LAC etc. So, I guess, Duke is overrated in the sense that its not a popular choice for West Coast kids at all, IMHO. I'm sure Duke has great programs but I just don't know if it's worth the cost... the degree programs that are stong there are equally strong at other top schools. I haven't heard of anystandout majors that no other school can compare too...

^^^that's all I'm saying. You just said it better.

Warbler, please post the data that backs up your assertion about duke's top programs.

banana- Haha, yes it was from memory. I guess it's a bit obvious I'm obsessed with Duke?

OK, please post those same rankings next to berkeley's.

Kaitlin, The same thing goes for Berkeley in the southeast, where I live. I am embarrased to say I only knew UC-Berkekley because of their football team (Cal). Now that I've begun the college search, however, I've discovered them both to be great schools. Anyways, all the top kids at my school apply to Duke, and our val. got the Ingram at Vandy, into Harvard, but still really wants to go to Duke. She didn't apply to Cal.

It certainly seems like this thread was created so that GentlemanScholar and duke could duke it out again over something that happened in the Berkeley vs Harvard thread.

I think the thread should be locked and forgotten about. No good can come from listing what schools people think are "overrated."

yeah, I'm interested to know where those rankings came from

G&S- You and I both know Berkeley beats any other school (including Harvard) for grad programs. Perhaps instead of Duke being overrated, Berkeley is underrated?

californiakid- NRC is the National Research Council, part of the National Science Foundation. They rank graduate programs, and they tend to be more trustworthy than US News rankings for specific programs.

I'm not going to argue against Berkeley being underrated in rankings like US News, but GS seems to have lost track of the fact that there's more to a university than its grad school rankings.
