Most Overrated Colleges? Majority Pick

from monitoring the Most underrated/overrated thread the following list of schools below were listed as the most overrated the most. I am curious to get a discussion going here because I plan on applying to one or two of these schools.

Boston College
Tufts
WUSTL
Emory
NYU

I’ll take Emory for one reason and one reason only: they prioritize UW GPA over class rank in admissions, regardless of the grade inflation present in many high schools…just my two cents…

i would say BC and Tufts are actually underrated

^ if you look at the most underrated overrated thread most have put BC and Tufts (especially BC) as overrated. Can you say why its underrated? Tufts is ranked 26th by the way.

BC does not have a very high ranking which it should. Tufts has a high ranking but it should be higher. Both schools have very good student bodies with good stats, set kids up well for after college, have good professors, BEAUTIFUL campuses, etc etc. Everything a good college has they are not lacking

And by the way the stereotype about white kids is ridiculous, what is wrong with you people.

WUSTL I think is slightly overrated. Johns Hopkins and Georgetown I think are underrated.

If you looked at the Forbes thread there was a good discussion on BC. I think BC is overrated becasue there are plenty of other schools ranked below it who have far superior academics. BC is a solid school but a bit overrated.

also remember it has 9,000 undergraduates.

Please people only focus on the schools listed above.

Math this is an open forum we may discuss whatever we would like.

Thats fine then start your own thread. I wanted to discuss these schools specifically because i have potential interests in them. Please stay on topic.

Tufts is a top 20-25 school (very good at veterinary medicine btw) and BC is a top 30-35 school (although much higher for business) that’s really all you need to know. whether it is 2 spots lower or higher is pretty irrelevant…

Tufts is completely underrated in my opinion. The academics are high-caliber and the student body is extremely intelligent. However, their lack of being well-known has hurt them significantly. For the record, Tufts was my second-choice, over Brown, Penn, etc.

Math, of those schools I like Tufts the most, and I think it’s underrated. Great IR program.

Are you honestly that presumptuous? This forum does not exist to cater to your every whim. Your thread title says nothing about asking for specific help, and your original post is embarrassingly vague. Just don’t read the rest of the discussion (which you asked for, by the way) if you’re looking for specific advice.

Tufts is a solid school but in terms of engineering they are ranked closer to 70th which is awful.

^“far superior?” I think BC is right where it should be, a solid top-40 university around the 30-35 range. Which of these schools below BC are “far superior” in terms of undergraduate education and prestige?
Georgia Tech
Lehigh
UCSD
Rochester
Wisconsin
Urbana Champaign
Case Western
RPI
UDub
UCDavis/Irvine/Santa Barbara
Penn State
UTA
Yeshiva

areyouserioussss, the topic is very general hence such vagueness. I am only going off the underrated overrated thread to gain some more knowledge as to why people think these individual schools are overrated. Sure maybe i am being a little selfish and i guess i apologize for that but again this is for my own personal enlightenment and probably for others as well.

ya how about you post some of the stats of these lower-ranked schools that have “superior academics”

WUSTL is only overrated in USNEWS ranking system. It’s actually very underrated in CC.

BC is overrated not on the rankings, but in the people’s perception about the school. Just like Harvard.
