um I'd beg to differ. PhD is a big deal; and admission to top PhD programs says a lot about the academic quality of a school, or at least of the students they admit.

And also, just so everyone knows, the list of top feeder schools to 15 professional schools was constructed using things like facebook profiles, so it's not 100% accurate. There were several other threads on it, but I'm too busy to go find it.

You're missing the point. The point is that most colleges don't reveal where their graduates get their PhDs, so placement numbers (e.g. "80% get a PhD") are useless for comparison purposes.

Yeah, I think the University of Chicago is starting to get overrated ever since it jumped to #9 last year. Good for U of C but...not sure it belongs in the top 10. Top 15, maybe. I suspect the admissions rate might drop this year below its steady 40%.

Let's see...back on topic:

Overrated - can't really say...all great schools really. I suppose Vanderbilt, Emory, and Notre Dame, simply because I don't believe they should be above Berkeley and Virginia and maybe Michigan in the rankings.

true, but if you live in Alaska and have good stats, you will probably get into lots of good colleges, and others with merit aid for bringing diversity. Going to college for free is underrated as well.
