most overrated/underrated college?

Overrated: U Michigan, most of the public schools mentioned here, Rice, Vanderbilt, WashU, Emory, Georgetown, and Berkeley.

Underrated:Cooper Union, Duke, UChicago, Northwestern, Lower Ivies.

Overrated: Schools mentioned by CaptnJack as being underrated

Underrated: Schools mentioned by CaptnJack as being overrated.

Seriously, it’s ridiculous to call schools like Duke, Chicago, and Northwestern underrated. They are all ranked very highly.

Oh sorry, I’m being rude and annoying…

Dude…what is your problem?

^^^Ok ok. I agree that Cooper Union is underrated. Better? By the way, you do realize that Berkeley is a public school correct? The way you separated it from the, “other publics schools mentioned here” made me wonder. Just saying, dude.

Overrated in North Carolina: UNC

Underrated in NC: Duke, Wake Forest, and Davidson

Overrated in general: Cornell, Princeton, Davidson

Underrated in general: Duke, Chicago, Caltech, Brown

BlueDevilMike-

Excellent advice. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you mentioned.

Overrated: Harvard, just because they have a 25.9 billion endowment fund doesn’t mean they’re as good as everyone says they are. Sure, they’re one of the more premier universities in the United States, but they’re not as good as they’re made out to be.

Most overrated: UCLA

Most underrated: Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Chicago and the “Little Ivies”

Overrated: Washington University in Saint Louis

Underrated: Harvard University, and University of Michigan (Go Wolverines!)

How is Harvard overrated? You do realize that in most parts of the world people recognize Harvard as the best school in the world, don’t you? How underrated can it be if it’s thought of-- worldwide-- as the best university… ever?

Edit: your location says you’re from/went to college in Cambridge, so you must be partial… I think

Overrated: Northwestern, Columbia, Cornell, uChicago
Underrated: UVA, Vanderbilt

Underrated-Holy Cross, William & Mary, Duke, Rice.

Overrated- the entire Ivy League
Underrated- Tufts, Northwestern, U Chicago, Duke, Rice, William & Mary, UVA

Overrated: Johns Hopkins University
Underrated: Georgetown University, Rice University

Perception and recognition aren’t always reality. Ignorance can take many forms, found in the most unlikely places.

“Well, if you say she’s pretty, she must be.”

Gotta wonder if and/or where “people” went to college …

Overrated: Many LACs (why pay 50k a year to go to a school no one has ever heard of?), Cornell, Dartmouth, UCLA, Notre Dame (especially in the midwest - they think it’s Harvard), Tulane

Underrated: Many state schools, Penn (confusion with Penn state), Rice, Georgetown

Overrated: LACS
Underrated: state schools

Overrated: Most LACs (at least here on CC they’re overrated), HYPS

Underrated: Big 10 state schools, especially UW-Madison, UIUC, U of M-AA, and Purdue

In terms of quality of undergraduate education:

overrated: Penn, Duke, Harvard, Yale, Stanford
underrated: all non-HYPSM Ivies (except Penn), Northwestern (too many Asians on CC hyping HYPSM and the safety Ivy–Penn)

I think a lot of state schools are pretty hugely underrated, often due to somewhat high acceptance rates, despite providing great academics.

Examples:
Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, Washington, and Georgia Tech.
