On Princeton Review it listed the two most popular majors as Neuroscience and International Relations. What would you say round out the top five (or even ten) most popular majors at JHU?

Based on the most recent data I have seen:

TOP 10 FOR ARTS AND SCIENCES
- International Studies
- Public Health
- Neuroscience
- Biology
- Economics
- Writing Seminars
- Psychology
- Political Science
- History
- English

TOP 5 FOR ENGINEERING
- Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering (limited enrollment major)
- Mechanical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Applied Mathematics

One note … most popular major does not always equal strongest major. Though not on this list, Hopkins’ programs in History of Art, Environmental Engineering, Classics, Physics (to name only a few) are also internationally recognized programs of study.

Just looking at the top 10 majors for A&S, I see a wonderful mix of majors from the social sciences to the natural sciences. Now it’s hard to wonder why Hopkins is still thought of so strongly as a factory for pre-meds (besides it’s still incredible medical school of course)

- Most undergraduates are studying science/engineering (63%). The social sciences (25%) and humanities (12%) are less popular. Science majors make up 48% of A&S undergraduates.

It is one of the largest producers of med school applicants. Last year only 7 schools had more Asian applicants (Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin, UCSD, Michigan, UCI, Cornell). Hopkins was 18th for Latino/Hispanic applicants, 27th for “Mexican-American” applicants, and 43rd for white applicants. In terms of applicants per capita, Hopkins is undoubtedly in the top 5.

Of course, “pre-med factory” or not, Hopkins is an excellent school with extremely strong departments across the board. One could certainly do worse and hardly better. :)

IBclass06, I’m pretty sure all of the schools you listed are much larger than Hopkins, so that Hopkins is still seventh says a lot.

As AdmissionsDaniel said, the physics program is really, really strong here but as I’ve seen first hand, it’s very difficult so you’ll typically have only 20 or so majors. My year though has about 30 people, which is very high.

i actually did not know neuro was so popular here. more popular than bio and econ? interesting. is this a list of declared majors or % seniors graduating with said majors?

The list I provided is based on a combination of declared majors and intended majors for those undeclared.

For the biology listing, did they lump behavioral biology into that? Did they keep them separate?

At Hopkins, Behavioral Biology is its own separate major so it is not included in the Biology total.
