Coldwind,
Is the 25th percentile a better index of how deep a school has to dig into their applicant pool? Why do you think the 25th percentile is more important?

Classes are more likely to be taught at that level & it is a better indicator of the strength of the studentbody, as well as of the applicant pool.
P.S. Can't wait to read your results regarding the most competitive schools in Wyoming!

is this combination of math & english without writing?

for me, my SAT score of those two sections exceed most of these prestigious school, but with the addition of my writing score, it is below their average.

should i still apply to them?

Your writing score doesn't matter that much. You should apply.

These are 25th and 75th percentile Critcal Reading and Math. Writing is excluded.

Most schools downplay the Writing section so I would apply to reaches, matches, safeties based on CR + Math.

Yhis is a good thread for determining reaches, matches, safeties. If your CR + math is in the middle 50% between the 25th and 75th percentiles then the school can be considered a match at least in terms of selectivity. Then you have to consider other factors suc as the availability of your major, location, size, and so on.
