Mostly Redundant Resume - Is this bad/a deal-breaker?

Hi guys. I have a bit of a concern. Penn allows for the submission of a resume (which is optional). I chose to submit my resume. After re-reading Penn’s stance on supplemental materials, I realize that I probably should not have submit it. http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/whatpennlooksfor/supplements I originally included my resume for the reason Penn said not to include it. I wanted to fully explain my activities in narrative form. There is not much new relevant info in it to the point where it would really require to me to submit it so that it could be fully understood. I submitted it because I didn’t want there to be any doubts with understanding my activities section (you do only get 150 characters after all to explain everything). I realize that since I have already submitted my application, it is too late to change anything. I was just wondering if this is submitting too many extra documents is a deal-breaker (I also submitted a supplemental rec because it showed a different side of me). I guess the good thing is that my resume is only 1 page long (I made everything concise.) I just would hate to have that be a major problem going forward. Is there any possibility they will ignore it? That would be my preference since it doesn’t add that much new info. How big of a deal is it? Thanks.

It will not help you but it definitely won’t hurt you especially considering it was just one page. A supplementary rec has no negative effects as long as it showed a different side of you (it is not from per say, a teacher).

@girl1425 I know it won’t help me. I was just wondering if that is something that makes them really angry or so. The supplementary rec is from my Mock Trial lawyer coach and I had him write it to show leadership/commitment. I was only asking about the resume, but thanks.

I submitted a two page long resume, but it did include a decent amount of new information about me. For example, some of my leadership roles included an extensive amount of responsibilities. I know resumes are generally supposed to be one page, but will it hurt me since its two pages? It is not redundant, however.

Hijacking a thread with your own scenario isn’t cool… OP, it won’t help, but shouldn’t hurt. They will just set it aside after skimming it. Don’t sweat it, just move on and focus on your other apps.

@intparent Okay, that is all I could really ask for. I am perfectly fine with it not helping at this point. As long as it doesn’t hurt. Any other opinions?

@jarrett211 I’m in a similar boat as you. I haven’t submitted my app yet but I think I will submit my resume even though it is a bit redundant. The worst it could be would be that you end up repeating the info buy then they can just set it aside. Plus, it is a more concise version of all of the activities.

@IvyWin Yeah, I guess I’m making a bigger deal out of this then I should. Alright, thanks everyone.
