So, my Mom has taken a job where she travels to different locations for 12-15 weeks at a time. She's gone two places so far, and I really hate never having her around. So, I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my chances of getting into a top college to go traveling with her and home school. Would taking AP tests in most subjects be a good idea? I think I could do it...

As for EC's, I would volunteer wherever I was and also be a marathon runner, as that is something I've always wanted to do but was unable due to no time. I also hope to get into writing contests and have been working on a book for several months that i hope to get published before my high school graduation.

What do you think? A good idea or ruining all chances I have?

I do not think it would ruin chances at a top school. It might even make you a more interesting applicant.

But, there are many unknowns. What kinds of locations? How long between trips? Can you take online classes? How would you do labs for science classes? Wound you be able to participate in activities at home? Are your parents supportive if the idea? Do you have siblings at home who rely on having you around? Etc etc. Actually a dizzying numer of questions come to mind!

I homeschooled my kids from grades 1-9 and oldest will go back to homeschool next year, his senior year, to take classes at the university here. I do not think he has ruined his chances of any schools due to the homeschooling. The freedom of hsing has provided him the opportunity to pursue his interests in greater depth.

My mom has looked at jobs in all sorts of places, including outside the U.S. I know Saudi Arabia almost happened. Each trip is 13-15 weeks, with only 2-3 inbetween. I don’t know about online classes, my parents are hesitant about the cost.

I have a few ideas for activities; starting a book review blog, continuing my running training to do marathons. I plan to volunteer wherever I go. No I don’t have any siblings relying me; I’m the youngest of five. My brother who is 30 lives at our house with his wife and 3 kids, who are all under 6. They are part of the reason I want to go with my mother; my house is loud and chaotic and my grades are suffering for it.

Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it.
