Mount Holyoke College Class of 2019

@redpoodles‌ Sure thing! Last time I went was in the fall, when classes were also in session. Everyone seemed so friendly. I also noticed that overall, it was a pretty quiet environment. I’ll save the details for when I come back tomorrow.

Also, how does everyone know about their scholarships? I don’t think I got any… :frowning:

Hi guys! I just wanted to drop in and say hi because I got accepted to Mount Holyoke this year as well! I’m an international student and I got the 21st Century Scholarship (25K) but I’m still waiting out for my results from other schools.

@astrofeline You can login to your financial aid portal here

Hi Astrofeline- please do come back and tell us how your tour went! I was also admitted to Mount Holyoke and would love to attend- I just don’t know if it is financially doable for our family at this point (but I am going to have a conversation with Financial Aid later this week- cross your fingers!)

Anyhow, I live in California and I can’t afford to fly out and tour the Mount Holyoke campus in person… so please come back and tell us how it is, in detail! I am specifically curious about the dorms

just registered for the accepted students weekend, I will be doing the overnight.

so excited.

does anyone know when the official acceptance will come in the mail?

@stitchpony, here are some pics of my D’s dorm room in MacGregor. http://www.collegeconfidential.com/vibe/mount-holyoke-college/

MHC is known for having amazing dorms, for what its worth!

Just got accepted w/ the 21st century scholar’s 25k/year scholarship yahoo!!
So glad to see so many international students! Also a lot of students wanting to do gender studies haha! I’m in both those categories too! And I’m using too many exclamation points because excitement!!!

This may be a silly question but you guys keep referencing a ‘d/D’ ? What does that stand for??

@Astrofeline‌ definitely come back describe it for us!! I’ve never visited the campus but it look gorgeous in pictures!!

@fairlylocal
D means “daughter”

Congratulations to all! You should be extremely proud of yourselves. My D is a first year at MHC and she absolutely loves it. She has a group of friends from all over the world and they have already become inseparable. The campus is beautiful every season of the year, even with all the snow. We are from Texas and my D has not minded the extreme cold (though you must learn to dress for it). The dorms are really nice, my D lives in MacGregor and has a great view of the upper lake, and she has seen all of the others and raves about them. I can assure you that if you choose to attend you will not regret it. Good luck to all.

Congrats, everyone! I got accepted with a 21st Cent. Scholarship, so I’ll be visiting next month. Hope to see some of y’all there! And I’ll be sure to post pictures for those who can’t go!

Hi all,

Very excited that it looks like my D will be attending MHC next year. The FA reduced the cost down to the cost of a state school (SUNY), so I don’t see why she wouldn’t go. I just have this great feeling about MHC. I told her at the very beginning of this process when her favorite school was McGill that she would probably end up some place we hadn’t expected like Mount Holyoke! We are attending the accepted student even during Spring Break and hope you all meet up with my amazing daughter.

Heyy guys, I wonder if anyone got the chat room email from MHC for April. Please I’d like to know your screennames if you did. And I was thinking about creating a whatsapp group so we would have an easier and regular way to communicate if anyone is interested please comment, mine is Egho98 btw.

@Astrofeline‌ , How was your visit? You can start a new thread if you want.

Hey everyone! Can’t wait to see you on campus this fall!

I’m sorry everyone!! I’ve been so distracted ever since Wellesley accepted me by some miracle. Let me start with this:
The last time I visited Mount Holyoke, it was on a VERY beautiful day. The sun was out, it was really warm, yadayada. This time, on the other hand, it was cold and windy (pretty awful) but nonetheless, Holyoke was beautiful as always. Our tour guide told us that you can circle the campus in 20 minutes by walking.
The campus was very clean- no garbage, weeds, buildings (at least appeared to be) in perfect condition. This applied to the insides as well. There were not many people walking around even though classes were in session that day. It was very quiet.
As for the dorms, I’m sorry, but we weren’t allowed to actually see one because our guide’s room was being remodeled. From what she told us (and what I was told on my last tour, which I hope is reliable) it seems that MHC dorms are always larger on average than most colleges. Although you’re not allowed to have air-conditioners, I was told on my LAST tour (again, I hope I remember this right) that the beds are normal twins, and not XLs. Also, it’s not unreasonable to expect a single in your junior/senior year. Some residence halls have cafeterias and small kitchens - you are not restricted to your hall’s kitchen, so students can just go to any one they like.
They also have Cookies and Milk in residence halls! That made me really happy (lol).

Yeah! I have already committed!

The dorm rooms are nice. The one we saw was larger. I remember thinking the furniture was of great quality–old, but solidly built, quarter sawn oak, thick, dovetailed drawers, built to last and that had probably been there for 50 or 100 years. It was really quality stuff. The closets were real closets and the windows were real windows, very nice, some with gorgeous views. I remember liking the dorms very much.

@astrofeline, where are you going? MoHo? Wellesley? Smith? Somewhere else?

For those who have done in person comparison shopping at any of the Seven Sisters recently, can you please share your impressions of the academic culture, dorm rooms, social life, etc?

@redpoodles Yes! That was something I forgot to mention. Our tour guide (Oct.) had a FULL-BLOWN WALK IN CLOSET. In a DOUBLE! It was amazing. o___o

As for me, I’m pretty sure I’m going to Wellesley. I thought I was going to Holyoke because I was 99% sure I couldn’t get into Wellesley after being deferred. My chances were very low. After I got into both (and Smith!), there was a large amount of stress on me before because I had the choices, but when I came to my senses, I realized that I applied ED to Wellesley and if I got in then, I would have had to go there. Something just tells me to go to Wellesley… :-?

Good luck with your choice Astrofeline, you have great options…but I think you’re right, if you applied ED to Wellesley and your package is suitable, that’s the place for you. Run with it.
