@archyr I was reading on some old MHC ED1 threads and most people said they heard between Dec. 15th and 25th, so, yes! Just a few more weeks then, hopefully.
around 10 more days (where i am) before the earliest possible decision email
if i’ve learned anything from the college application process… it’s that im not a patient person lmao
good luck to everyone applying ed1!!! i hope we all get good news
hi everyone! (again)
I’ve just got a quick question I want to run by you guys - when I look through the past ED threads for MHC, I see a lot of people mentioning ISIS which i understand is now mymountholyoke.
i was wondering if we’re supposed to have gotten login details for this? did anyone get them? all i’ve gotten so far is for the applicant status page and (since i’m applying for financial aid) the FA portal. any help at all would be appreciated! (i may or may not be trying to distract myself from what’s coming in a few weeks :D)
@lapidescence Hi!! Good luck to you too!! I’m so excited/nervous to find out… I’ve also only gotten an email about the application status page, so I don’t think they’ve sent out login details for mymountholyoke yet. I’m hoping they’ll send a letter in the mail in addition to the portal when decisions are out!!
They send you an email to let you know to check the page when they release the decisions, so you don’t have to haunt the portal - although goodness knows that didn’t stop me!
ahhhhhhh nerves are getting to me. and thanks @MHC2021 and @FireflyLights i do feel calmer now! And I completely understand about haunting the portal, i’ve been refreshing it all the time!
so where are you two from? im reporting from singapore (actually pakistani though haha)
I’m a current sophomore at MHC - I never created an account, but when I was in high school I found this forum really helpful, so now I’m trying to help out other people in the same boat. I’m just floating around to answer questions! Good luck to you guys!
@lapidescence wow cool, that’s so far away! I’m from the US What made you decide to apply ED to Mount Holyoke?
Thanks! @FireflyLights
@MHC2021 well there were a bunch of reasons but i mainly really liked the community at MHC - it’s incredibly diverse and i’ve heard MHC has one of the highest % of internationals in its student body (doesn’t hurt my chances of getting in either)
i’ve heard the campus is beautiful! i’ve only seen pictures of course but from what i can tell, its definitely true!! who wouldn’t want to spend 4 years studying there?
i’m also really interested in its astronomy major/minor, MHC is one of the few colleges that have it as a major (and has a fairly good rep for it) and, being the space geek i am, that settled it!
my sister also studies there, she’s a senior this year, so since i’m a legacy, i’m just praying that can pull my chances up - compared to the other applicants from singapore, i doubt i’m all that qualified but if im gonna get in anywhere, it’ll probably be at MHC
what about you MHC2021? what chain of events led to you applying ED1?
@lapidescence I know that you have your heart set on MHC, but you may also want to look at Agnes Scott. It has a truly unique astronomy department. Also, you can take classes at Emory, a world-class university. Letting you know if by slim chance you aren’t accepted into MHC. https://www.agnesscott.edu/physics/
It’s one of the few women’s colleges perhaps in the world that offers astrophysics. https://www.agnesscott.edu/physics/majors-minors/astrophysics-major.html
@lapidescence The high number of internationals also drew me to MHC; diversity is important to me and I’m really interested in foreign languages/cultures, so that was definitely a factor for me! Not to mention, I’ve heard great things about the foreign languages at MHC.
Yes, the campus is so beautiful!! I actually visited 4 times haha (I only live a couple hours away). Nice quiet town too. Although some people may see that as a down side, I love having a small, safe surrounding town.
I first heard about MHC because my mom went there and so I visited, interviewed, came back for a shadow day, and even came back another day to sit in on a class right before the ED1 deadline. I really like the atmosphere the all-women’s aspect creates…everything about the school just seems perfect to me! I participated in an online chat thing that MHC students/staff ran and everyone had such positive things to say about the clubs and sports I’m interested in I realized that I kept comparing other schools to MHC and I didn’t want to apply to a bunch of schools that I wasn’t in love with, so, I thought, why not apply ED1 to MHC?
Also, MHC is part of the five college consortium, which sounds fantastic!
@MHC2021 I feel the same way about MHC. I’m applying RD…I like several colleges and don’t want to commit and I have to consider financial aid.
Four times is a lot! I visited once and it was really great. My tour guide and Skype interviewer sent me postcards - isn’t that awesome? I assume you got postcards as well. It’s a cute thing of them to do.
I actually want to go to college in a rural area. I’m a country girl at heart but I live in the suburbs. I love the beautiful area - it’s great for hiking and MHC has a large outdoors club.
@Dustyfeathers thank you!!! i really do appreciate the help and i’ll definitely check them out
i’m quite like hiking too! it’s tiring but for some reason relaxing - it would be great if i could do that at MHC
and yeah, i’ve hear that since MHC is part of the 5 colleges, you can take classes in other colleges too, which is super neat - you’d have your pick of classes!
since you’ve been to MHC 4 times, what’s the campus like? is it very big? i’ve heard it looks like hogwarts!
@greenteen17 yeah I totally understand not wanting to commit and also comparing financial aid offers. I went back and forth a lot on whether I should apply ED but it came down to me realizing that I would pick MHC even if I got into other schools, and it seemed almost painful to drag out the process an extra 5 months when I know where I want to be. That being said, if I don’t get in, I’ll have to be ready to apply to other schools right away!
yes, it is! drove my parents a bit mad…however, I think it was worth it because it really solidified my decision and I fell in love with the school during my visits. I did get post cards, love it…nice personal touch.
Ahh me too I’m a big hiker/outdoorsy person; def want to participate in the outing club if there’s time with sports!!
@lapidescence I love hiking and backpacking:) A girl at my high school just started a hiking club, but they only go on hikes once a month. Better than nothing though! I’ve heard that the MHC outing club is very active
Yeah the consortium opens up lots of opportunities! I heard that there’s a fun cross country skiing class at Hampshire.
The campus is kind of big but everything feels really homey and comfortable; it doesn’t feel like a sprawling place. Yeah, it does look like Hogwarts!! I love all the grassy areas and ponds/lake too…someone told me there’s a mile-long walking loop. The library is beautiful … if you type in “Mount Holyoke college library” in google images you’ll find lots of pics of it!
@MHC2021 is it possible to be homesick for a place you’ve never been to before? because that’s exactly what i feel right now! honestly, the only thing I want for christmas (even if i dont celebrate it) is an acceptance letter to MHC!
@greenteen17 you’re not alone on the part of having to consider financial aid - my family is pretty much broke and my parents aren’t really the best at planning, which makes matters worse. and i heard that being international, it’s even more difficult. if any place would give me the aid i need, it’s probably going to be MHC. but even then, applying ED is a risky game. i just hope it all turns out for the better, for both you and me!
i really hope we can all meet each other next year! wouldn’t it be cool if all 3 of us joined the outdoor club at mhc?
@lapidescence I think it can be!! I’m so anxious and excited to find out…we have only a week or so more…I predict we’ll hear around the 18th or 19th. The time went by so fast! It feels like I was just sending my application in.
I really hope we can all meet each other at MHC too! That’d be awesome if we all did the outdoor club:)
@MHC2021 i know exactly how you feel - i’m pretty anxious too! and the 18th/19th is still more than a week away, i have no idea how we’re going to survive that. the days are passing by so slow!
how do you think the ED acceptance rate is going to be this year? should be around 50% right? i think moho kind of teeters around that point
