Anyone know if MHC still encourages parent letter of recommendation? No info about this on admissions website or common application - at least info I could find.
Always thought this was a nice twist to MHC application.

I have not heard about the parent letter of recommendation. I did not write one for my daughter who attends MHC now. No one mentioned it to her/us in any of the admissions interactions we had either. Maybe it was a suggested contribution a few years ago? Sorry I don’t have more insight about this.

I don’t think so. One of my D’s applied about six years ago and it was part of the application then – it was called an “optional peer/parent evaluation”. D2 applied last year and it was not mentioned at all in the application (they also dropped the writing sample/graded paper they used to require, which D2 was already to provide). So I think this is not part of their process any more. I didn’t do one for D1, and obviously it wasn’t an option for D2. Both were accepted, though. :)

It’s part of the supplemental packet on their web site application page here: https://www.mtholyoke.edu/admission/apply/commonappsup.
However… my daughter and I are confused because the supplemental essay questions in this PDf are different than those on the Common App’s MHC supplemental materials. Been meaning to contact the admissions office about that discrepancy: thanks for reminding us!

I just looked at the .pdf, I think those are the same questions they had last year. If the Common App has different questions, I would go with those. Have to admit we never looked at the .pdf last year, just went off what was requested in the Common App (as I think most students do). I assume you know colleges prefer to get the Common App (electronically) vs. a paper application – I think Mount Holyoke gets a fair number of international applicants who may not have access to complete the Common App online, but the Common App is the way to go if you can access it.

Yes it looks like they eliminated the optional parent letter. Also appears the graded writing sample is no longer required. In a way I’m relieved - two fewer items to keep track of !
