Mount Holyoke RD Waiting

I think someone said that the fall spots fill up with waitlist before spring admits. I am going to use the extra 3 months to work and save money. In fact, it probably will work out better for me. And reading up on the spring admits last night, they seem to bond and sometimes get better rooms (because they’re taking junior rooms who have better choices of rooms). I thought about asking for Sept, but the more I think about it, the more I can use the summer and fall to recuperate from the rigors of high school and bank some money.

If I’m accepted to Smith and they give me more grant money, I"ll go there but right now MHC is my plan. I have about 5 other schools to hear from but the only one that can knock me off the MHC Express is Smith with more $$.

They increased my grants. Now, I hope that they will give me some money to travel to the admitted students weekend. I’m from Germany and had no opportunity to visit the campus, but would be very happy to do so…

@Charlotte91

Can you talk a little more about how you got you grants increased? Did you just call the fin aid office and/or how did you convince them that you needed more money?

I got a pretty bad package so I would jump at the chance to make Mo Ho more of an actually option for me next year.

Anyways, we have to pay 53,596 + health 1.5k or just 53,596?

Also…from what I gathered, the food comes with that, right?
aaaaaaaand…how much would books and other stuff cost?

@Meanderer: I sent them an email asking for reconsideration because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to attend MHC. They asked me some questions about our medical and insurance expenses and about my sisters plans for college.
I think, you have to explain why you need more money and why it will be hard for your parents to pay so much money.

@MarieM: 53,596 + Health Insurance. As far as I know they calculate 1,900 for additional expenses.

^ Thank you! :)

I’ll give it a shot.

I just sent an email to the financial aid office. Let’s hope they’re open to working with me because I’d really enjoy attending Mount Holyoke.

Ah hey, I got in as a 21st century scholar!
So grateful to MoHo. Charlotte, I too have some questions regarding fin aid, may i PM you?

I am waitlisted…

If one asks for the reconsideration of financial aid, what is the maximum grant that one can receive? When I asked for reconsideration, should I directly say the amount of aid I need more?

Hi!
I just got accepted and in the ‘Awards’ section there is more awards than I asked for! I wanted to ask if that is our personal awards or the total award MHC can provide ANY college student??
Thank you to anyone who can help!
Oh and please, I am not trying to show off at all…it is just that MHC is my first acceptance with financial aid and I cannot believe it because I am an international student and I have already got rejected from so many other colleges.

You don’t ask for anything. They look at your FAFSA and CSS and any other documentation they ask for and then they calculate your aid.

If your documents were just received roughly a week ago, did they consider you for financial aid? Because I was not awarded any form of anything, and no way can my parents pay for everything! I guess calling would be my best bet, but I doubt my needs will be met :/

Got my email on Friday, about mid-day. I received January Admission, which I’m actually okay with. I was told we will receive our financial aid stuff within the next couple of weeks, still true? Also, anyone else get January Admission?

A few of us are Spring admits. I’m okay with it too. I’m going to work in the fall and put money away. CONGRATS!

I’m a spring admit as well! I was accepted Wednesday and received all of my financial aid stuff Thursday. Ready2011 I’ll most likely be working in the fall and saving some money too :)

My D is a firstie. She reported that this year’s spring (actually winter (January 2011)) admits went through all of the same rituals as she did in September and October, including elfing. Just not the big outdoor welcome ceremony, as it was 10 degrees or less and there was 3 feet of snow. There are far fewer spring admits than fall admits, but they have fit in just fine with the other firsties. I was a spring admit for grad school (too many years ago to count), and the one problem that I had was that I had to take some courses out of sequence since some were only offered during only one term. But that was grad school not undergrad school where many of the intro courses are offered during both terms. Take a nice summer vacation – travel – and spend the fall earning some money doing the jobs that all of the college students had to give up to go to school in September!

Thanks ConCernd Dad! Are there any other spring admits going to mhc in April for the “Experience MHC” program?

Not sure if I can afford it. But I’d love to go! ^
