I’m going to do my best to go. I really really really want to go and stay overnight.

Unless Smith accepts me with more money, I’m going to MHC. So right now I’m pretty psyched. And I have more time to prepare for it, save money and really do it right. I’ve been so depressed wondering if I can afford school and now I think I can! So I’ll be going.

So sad! MHC has always been my dream school,I don’t want to hear from it until May?! Oh my gosh…

is anybody put on the waiting list? I am…

To those who have been waitlisted, please don’t feel bad. I am an alum, and my D has been wait listed, despite the right GPA, SAT scores, interview, etc. I assumed a qualified “legacy” would be accepted, not wait listed! Huge shock, but she is eager to hear from Smith, her favorite of the two schools based on location, location, location! Northampton is just much more to her liking and not so quiet compared to South Hadley…

I couldn’t take it any longer. I woke my daughter up this morning to make her look on-line to see if she got in. (She didn’t get an email) She got in! 15k grant! We are all so excited for her!

She’s an A student but applied as “test optional”. She is a very strong rower and had lots of great LOR’s.

She is already back asleep!

Hey guys! Im an international student, and I’ve been accepted!! :)

Congratulations to all of you accepted! And for those of you waitlisted/rejected, cheer up! In the end, you will go to the school that’s best for you :)

I have a quick question…Is MHC paying for the admitted students to visit in April?

Congrats everyone!!!

did anyone’s acceptance letter mention their major?

@ready2011: No mine didn’t and I can’t seem to find my major anywhere on my portal, so I really don’t know what I went in as ahahaha :D

I’m SO excited to meet all of you guys at the admitted students program!! For those of you who signed up: did you guys get a notification saying that they received your info?

@pinklilyflower I didn’t receive a notification saying that they got my information, but Im still going to fax in that waiver of liability form just in case. :)

My mom called the finaid office, and they said I am eligible for aid or grants. Everyone was very excited (as was I), but MHC is just not happening. No way do I have the means to pay for ALL of the tuition on my own! How are the rest of you guys paying? (even with the grants?)

@skewedworld: I got about $20,000 dollars in scholarships and grants, and my parents are paying for the rest with loans D: but with my sister going to college as well its really expensive. My parents are going to come with me on the admitted students program and then talk to the finaid office and see if they can lower my costs.
WHY IS COLLEGE SO EXPENSIVE?? D:

The financial aid person said that the grants had been used up, because of the extremely competitive applicants who applied this year. Well, at least you got 20,000 dollars, but its still 46,000 thousand a year, and they said they’re very limited for this year. Personally, I don’t believe that, but maybe I’m just not that valuable of an applicant… At least some one on the waitinglist will get in. I wish things were different, but even if they throw a small grant my way, it would still be several tens of thousands!

@pinklilyflower : What was your grant for?

Accepted with a 52,656 schoalrship per year to Mt. Holyoke! Int’l student. Very happy!

@going2univ: Congrats! Where are you from?

@skewedworld: they actually said that i have to pay about$28,000 a year and I got the Mary Lyon grant, i don’t exactly know what it is for did you apply for finaid? Because if you did, they should give you money, i thought MoHo was really generous in giving money for their students.

did you guys talk to finaid or did your parents?

My parents are going to talk, but do you think it’s better if I talk?

^ Mount Holyoke is only as generous as they feel they have to be, as determined by your EFC or their own calculations (most likely EFC though).

If you qualify for a more competative scholarship, it is because your stats indicate that you are at the top of the applicant pool and thus, less likely to attend without some persuasion (this is what they statistically think, anyway).

If you get less money than you assumed, it’s usually not because you’re ‘not as special’. It’s just that they honestly don’t think you need it. If you do, that’s where you let them know that their reality isn’t yours,

i’m put on the waiting list…probably because of the huge FA i asked…about 3,5000 i guess?

Is it ok to ask for more aid? Can anyone give me advice on how to ask for more aid? Thanks!

The finaid page says you can ask for more loans if you can’t meet your expected contribution.
