i know NSO start on sept 18 but when can we start moving into the dorms. the flight i booked is on sept 15 so i was wondering if my parents can help me move in during the weekend before nso cuz it's gonna be really hard to book a flight that arrives on sept 18. any advice...what did u current students do in years past?

Hmm... crap. My understanding was that everyone had to move in on the same day, the first day of NSO. I'm about 95% sure about this. You could call housing to check and see what you can do. I think you may have to stay in a hotel for 3 days, but do call to make sure... maybe you can make arrangements to move in early. I'm not sure if this is the number you want, but here's the housing assignments office (650) 725-2810 You might also call the housing service center of your dorm complex once you know where you'll be living http://www.stanford.edu/dept/rde/shs/hsc/

Yeah, the general rule is to move in on the first day of NSO, unless you're an international student. But call housing and see.

so should I fly in one day earlier to get adjusted? or just fly in on the same day as NSO? what are your reccomendations?

I had a fine experience with flying in in the morning, renting a car (my parents came with me), getting lunch, and then going to campus. I don't feel that I needed any adjusting time. Keep in mind that you'll likely have to get a hotel room if you plan to come before NSO starts, unless you called housing and they said otherwise.

I flew out the night before and shared a hotel room with a friend that night, then headed for campus the morning of NSO. I liked it--I got a cheap flight, but more importantly, I could be sure I arrived on campus early in the day so I could get settled in. I think the best advice I can give you is to get checked in as early in the day as possible; I think the earliest they'll let you move in is around 9:00.

Yeah: I mean, it really depends; if you want the bottom bunk, get there early. If not, then get there whenever. If you're in Stern/Wilbur, the beds aren't bunked, so it doesn't matter.
