Move-in date????

"Check-In for new students is on Monday, August 30, 2010. Students traveling a great distance to Columbia may receive a special invitation from Housing Services to move in a day early on Sunday, August 29, 2010. (Unless you receive a special invitation, or are participating in a special orientation program, you may not move into your room prior to Monday, August 30.)" from Columbia's housing site

What exactly constitutes "a great distance"? Does going from Seattle to New York count?

of course. Have received UNI and set up the columbia email already. Anyone when we will receive housing assignment and tuition payment information?

thought the Aug 29th date was for International students. Otherwise Aug 30th.

my year great distance was west coast and international folks, but i am sure it changes based on numbers.

tuition payment usually is early july, housing is usually mid to late july.

around late june if you have questions about how to pay - maybe about payment plans, that is the best time to call the financial aid office from my experience.

Side note: Anyone else annoyed with their pre-determined email address?

I mean, it’s less cool than peter.woods@yale.edu or even pwoods@hamilton.edu, but I knew Columbia had cryptic email addresses last fall, but still decided to apply. So I can’t say I’m surprised and disappointed.

yes the two initials with the 4 numbers is terribly exciting :(. Oh well, Columbia will cream Yale at soccer and football, and then life will be fine.

little known secret - so long as your name does not have any other previous users you can do first.last@columbia.edu. i was able to.

also - it is called forwarding. so you can use your gmail.

and a last thing - a lot of folks i know are kind of attached to their uni, so much so that they actually make it their gmail.

i dont really mind mine…but admissions geek how do you get the first last name thing done since they already assigned us emails?

Actually I’d be interested to know as well.

um if you’re name is that unpopular, just start sending emails from - first.last@columbia.edu

i do it all the time still.

so just try it out - you need to sign in to cubmail from your uni, and in the ‘send’ field ad your first.last email, and if it works it will go thru, if it doesn’t, you’ll get an error mesage.
