Just posted on various websites that move in day is now Mon. the 30th.

monday is 29th. but yes, it is on monday now.

sorry, my mistake, I meant to write MONDAY the 29th

Wise decision to change the Move In day given the timing and severity of the storm system expected to hit NYC around Sunday. It is supposed to be a fast moving system, so hopefully the system would have cleared out completely by Monday. Hope those “spaghetti” models with lines drawn even closer to NYC than previously will change and the storm will not hit dead center of the densely populated areas of NYC and Boston, etc.

The latest is that the storm system is supposed to pass west of Boston, which is not good since the locales to the east of the eye of the storm tend to get the worst damage.

Writestuff, I’m with you. Hope all will be safe.

I was just coming to post this. Kudos for alerting everyone!

This is affecting more than the incoming frosh class. If we do progress to a Category 2, storm surge could theoretically put much of Battery Park City under as much as 6’ of water.

Things aren’t looking great for Long Island either. D (who will be a senior) will be moving into Broome Street over Labor Day weekend now. She has work all next week anyway and H isn’t able to take off.

usk,

You are right. Long Island is supposed to be in the center of the system, along with potential problems for Battery City, Rockaways, and other places built close to the water.

Well, your D will not miss much by missing a week in a NYU dorm, especially with work for the week. The important thing is to be safe. Hope it is not gonna be as ugly as some are forecasting. (Shudder.)

Thanks. We are inland, so we should be ok with flooding. It’s the winds and downed trees/ power that could be a problem. MY FIL is in Atlantic Beach right on the water on the South Shore. Just heard they might be evacuating…I hope my SIL in Manhattan plans on having a visitor. (But you know who will be the lucky one to claim him in the storm!)

Good luck to everyone!

usk, We are close to the Long Island sound and eastern Long Island is supposed to be hit hardest in Long Island. (I’m in Suffolk County).

Glad to hear you are in a safe place inland. I bought a bunch of groceries and told hubby to get ready with emergency radio and batteries for flashlights. I just hope we do not lose electricity. That would mean spoiling of all the food I bought. Forgot about that possibility. :(

Anyway, you all be safe!

Well, so much for our plans to do a bit of sight seeing in NYC on Saturday and daughter’s move-in on Sunday. Sigh. We’ve changed our plans to doing a daytrip to move her in on Monday instead. Although it’s 200 miles each way, since we did it to move her out, I suppose we can do it again to move her in. I guess you can’t do much about the weather. I don’t know how much we’ll be affected here in the Boston area. We’re about 20 miles SW of Boston, so we’ll have to see what happens.
