Hey guys for Move-in day,
its supposed to be from 10 AM - 5 PM.
is there any diff from if u go at 10 AM and if u go at 5 PM?
like if u get there late will u get a crappy room or sumthin hahah.

Good question. I want to know the answer to this also. Is it less crowded later in the day???

Your room is already assigned; they’re just not telling you. I suppose you might have a difficult time obtaining your keys since the RA’s won’t be in the courtyard. Overall, absolutely no difference for coming late. If you come early, well, you won’t find anyone to help you out.

oooo thats good then.
cuz im coming from LA so its a 6-7hrish drive.
and i can either leave sunday EARLY morning and get there at 10ish
or i can sleep in and then take my time getting there between 10 and 5 =P

since my rooms alrdy assigned ill jus take my time hahah.
thanks!

We are coming from South Orange County and are going up on Friday. I was trying to see if we have to be there right at 10:00, but I guess we don’t. Thanks. :-)

The caveat is though, if you come later than your roommates, all the good spots in the room will be taken especially if you’re in a triple.

unless you and they have all acted like decent human beings and discussed this or waited until you all are there before claiming territory. In that case, you can come whenever it is more convenient. If you fear that your roommates might be ds – or if you are a dk – then going early is quite important.

The line starts growing well before the 10AM start time. By 10 you will see a very long line snaking all around the unit and perhaps down the street, with piles of possessions interspersed with students and parents.

Or if you’re in a triple you could just talk about bed/desk choices with your roommates. That’s what is advised and that’s what my roommates and I did. It worked out well.

^^ a more polite way of saying the same thing I did.

True but my son’s roommate isn’t responding and the other one didn’t release information. He’s in a triple unit suite in Foothill. I guess we should get there on time.

Ah, was browsing on another tab before I decided to use the ‘quick reply’ function, so I didn’t see that you had posted similar advice before I wrote it, Rider. :)

But momfirst, regardless of where everyone throws their stuff the first day, maybe they can negotiate once everyone gets there if someone’s not happy with the arrangements as-is?

Oh yeah, it will be fine. My son’s low key. He won’t care. He was just kind of bummed that the guy didn’t even respond.

What was the subject line in the email? It might have looked like spam since he wouldn’t recognize the name - might even have been automatically dumped in a spam folder.

this is off topic, but i wish calmail would stack emails from conversations, like gmail does.
How long would the lines be if I come around 11? It is just that I had nothing to do the entire day, so I might as well start early…I’m moving in on Sunday, maybe I could go visit Caltopia with my family while the line becomes shorter…

Hmmmm. That’s a good question. I don’t know. I’ll ask him.

A lot of people act like as*holes than you think, just watch out.

haha i think its good for me =P
i got double minisuite in unit 1 so theres only 2 beds to choose from xD

I’m moving in Sunday too, and we were going to move in super early around 8 or 9 so we could get a good bed… is this recommended?

^Highly recommended.
