moving in late

I had a few questions about moving in a day late to the dorms. Is it a common thing to do, or will I be practically the only one to awkwardly move in? Also, when would be the ideal time to arrive at cal if moving in a day late? I think there are a few events after we move in but will I be missing a lot on the first day?
honestly, I really just don't want to be the only one moving in late :(

Most arrive on move-in day. For the units, there are really two days - based on type of room – which could mean that your ‘late day’ arrival on Sunday for a Saturday move-in will really be on time move-in day for the other half of incoming students. You would not stand out at all.

The main activity is getting to meet others, beginning friendships and exploring the school.

If you arrive a day late, you still want to be there in the morning because it may take a while to get everything up and down, set up in the room, and still be able to meet people before evening.

I actually can’t make it until Monday morning, which would be after those two days
Have you seen any people move in then?
Also, are we told who our roommates are beforehand or do we meet/talk to them for the first time when moving in?
sorry for all the questions but I’m just really nervous about all of this.

if the roommates and you have all checked the box that allows releasing the info to your roommates, then once you are matched into rooms, you will be notified and are able to discuss things ahead of time. It is part of the application process for a room, where you are asked about allowing your contact info and name to go to your roommate. Most say yes, but not everybody.

Not that many move in late, but it is not abnormally rare. No news camera crews will be filming you struggling in with your suitcases on Monday. It is a big campus with lots of students, which is one of its benefits - anonymous when you want to be, but guaranteed to have many with shared interests or similar outlooks when you want company.

thank you so much! I’ll make sure I check that box when applying.

I found this website called ■■■■■■■■.com where we can find roommates who have similar interests and whatnot. Would you recommend using this site to find a roommate?

I moved in late and it was fine. As long as you talk it out with your roommate it’s good. I didn’t really use ■■■■■■■■.com b/c I found my roommates on Facebook. And you are not missing out b/c like rider730 said the University is big and I easily found people with shared interests.

thanks for the idea, rider

Can anyone give me any specific ideas as to what I’ll be missing if I arrive one Monday morning? I’m assuming it’ll take a few hours to get settled so I’ll be joining everyone past noon, will they all be just hanging out or are all the freshman bonding through super fun activities? :(
