@MAP, when I went to the CAS parent orientation years ago, the head of the Housing mentioned that to an audeince of about 300 parents, we alll busted out laughting. I never forgot that.

@Sally: Yes, there are shuttles for move in day! They take you to and from Kmart, BBB, and Kimmel.

@ milkandsugar-- you made my day!

Bumping this, but I swear I’ll write out a longer post later.

Would it be smart to try and promote clubs and parties the first week or is it best to try and settle in first? I’m just trying to see the best way to meet people and socialize (not necessarily party). Whats the best mindset and course of action to go with during welcome week?

Honestly, go with the flow of your group of friends. If they want to go to Times Square or check out the Met, then go do that. If they want to get dressed up and party at Webster Hall, do that. Club promoters will be out in full force, trying to rook freshmen into going to lame parties, so be careful of that.

Just received the Parents Newsletter. New Freshmen (except for Founders) must register for a time slot to move into dorms. The deadline to register is August 20 at 5 p.m.See the link below.

Anyone on here not a freshman??

If so, did you receive an email stating you may have to be put into a hotel until space frees up inside the dorms?

Sorry to hijack this by the way

never heard of that happening before, and I am not a freshman. Although I think you might have intended that the be for freshman.

Actually it has happened before. Just from my own experience, back in the 80’s, there was a housing crunch and some transfers ended up in the YMCA.

There was just an article in the NY Times about this occurring around the country as schools did not properly estimate their yields.

This week’s Washington Square News has an article about the shortage:
