I signed up to be a move in maker because freshmen don’t get to move in until September 6 aka 2 days before classes start and i really want to be able to experience welcome week. Do you guys think its worth it? I know its a great way to make friends but i also heard it sucks because it makes it harder to become friends with people who are in your dorm because while everyone is making friends you’re stuck helping people move in
You might want to recheck your information. At http://housing.umich.edu/fall-movein, the website says: “General Move-In for all undergraduates is Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5.” Not sure that is correct for “all undergrads” since my sophomore son’s contract says it starts September 6. But I think freshmen may be able to move in on the 4th or 5th.
I signed up to be a move-in maker and I think that this is a great opportunity. By the way, Move-in makers move in on August 31 which is like a week before everyone moves in.
@2135ar. I think the issue is that for some reason the housing contracts just sent out say they begin September 6 th which is very odd given that UMich housing info does say move in is sept 4 and 5. I was actually going to call about this tomorrow.
That is the case every year. Disregarding the contract starts on Sunday, the main move-in days for freshmen are on Friday and Saturday. There are many reasons for earlier move-in sessions such as Move-in makers, Marching band, etc. Nevertheless, only during the official move-in dates there will be special traffic arrangements. For instance, there will free garage parking and they allow 30min parking ON the curb right in front of the dorm for unloading. To get that, you will need to sign-up for a move-in time online and print out a permit for the specific time. Alternate move-in dates do not have these benefit.
