Move in question

Hello, so I was placed onto the douglass campus but I'm not part of the douglass program. On the list of move in dates (Move In Dates 2013 - Move In Guide - Rutgers Residence Life) it shows Douglass Residential College First Year and Transfer Students on August 30 at 8:00 am and First Year on August 31 at 8:00 am. Since I'm not in the douglass program do I go to the August 31st one or the August 30th move in date?

Also, since give hand outs usually end at 3pm can I come at around 1-2pm? My parents work so it would be difficult for me to go at 8am.

I have emailed Rutgers already about this and they have only given me half answers and/or not very clear answers that answer my questions. So far my last email has been send 4 days ago and I have yet to hear a reply from them.

Thank you in advance for helping me~!

Here’s what i did today to get a clear answer for a different campus. Goggle “rutgers move in guide.” Once on the “rutgers residence life” page, don’t look at what they call “the move in guide” because it’s not clear/complete. Instead, look for your actual dorm on that first page; try “key pick up times” or “halls and apartments”, then click on your exact dorm. That’s what you go by, first your dorm, then your category (eg. freshman vs honors vs transfers vs special programs may or may not move in at different times for a given dorm. If it’s the “special program” part that’s throwing you, if you’re in a special program, you’d know it. Otherwise you’re just a regular old freshman (or whatever) and probably move in later than the special program people in most dorms.

Other than an initial rush early in the morning, students spread out move in times over the day. 1 to 2 pm should be just fine. It shouldn’t take more than 10 to 20 minutes to move your stuff from car to room. There are upper classmen being paid to help you. The whole system is surprisingly efficient, considering. I hope this helps because move in day should be fun, not confusing.

PS. You do need to also click (on that same residence life page) on “directions”. There you will find two important things. One, a map of the traffic patterns on campus for move in days. Two, a parking sign that you have to put on your dashboard before they’ll let you near your dorm.

Have fun.
