In The OC, everyone ends up getting into Berkeley; I'm pretty sure the only reason they wanted to go there in the first place was because a bunch of their parents went there.

CJ Gregg (The West Wing) often mentions that she got her masters at Cal.

"The Graduate"

"The Real Housewives of Orange County"...Kara Keough goes to Berkeley after getting rejected by USC and UCLA - her top choices...ouch! Berkeley is much better anyways...;)

Wikipedia has a list of Berkeley references in pop culture:

My mom watches a lot of movies/shows, and every time she heard Berkeley mentioned, she'd tell me. So we started writing them down. What we have (within the past month or two):

Pompatus of Love
Prisoners of Zenda, Inc.
The Graduate
Phenomenon
Junior
Father's Day
Substitute
Cherry Falls
Tomorrow Never Dies
A Perfect Murder
Godzilla
Deep Impact

... and a whole ton of others that we never wrote down.

In Hulk, Bruce Banner is a researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

Although based on true events, in Pirates of the Silicon Valley, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs do a lot of mischief in Berkeley.

DJ Tanner went to Berkeley after getting rejected by the Furd.

Indeed, the scene where Bruce Banner is irradiated and hence obtains the powers of the Hulk was actually shot at the Advanced Light Source building at LBL.

Why, is Lawrence Berkeley National Lab a property owned by Berkeley? Does it offer courses or awards degrees too?

Just asking.

^ the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab is located in the hills above the Berkeley campus. I believe UC or Federal govt owns the land. It is a government subsidized research lab. UC runs 3 national labs (Berkeley, Livermore, and Los Alamos) in partnership with private firms.

It does not offer courses or degrees. It's a research center for professors, post-docs, and graduate students.

Thanks for the information.

I did research the 3 labs you mentioned and I was astounded by the vastness of their operations and the importance of their contributions to the United States. No wonder why Berkeley or the UC, in general, is so much famous.

One of the law students in "Legally Blonde" mentions that she got her Ph.D at Berkeley.

"Patch Adams" has scenes shot on the Berkeley campus - such as the classroom scene (shot in LeConte). A lot of the outside shots were shot on a different campus though (I forget which college).

^^ oh yes, I forgot about those. She got her PhD in women's studies and combat, or something. And led the Lesbians Against Drunk Driving parade. (lol)

also leonardo dicaprio lies and says he got his degree from berkeley when he proposes to the nurse in "catch me if you can"

^ Really? lol

I didn't hear Berkeley was mentioned in "catch me if you can." I should be watching that again.

yup. he ponders when asked where he got his degree and answers berkeley. it so happens that the father also got his degree there and asks about a certain professor and his dog. of course dicaprio doesn't know this so he says the dog is dead.

I think Berkeley is also mentioned in "Forrest Gump." I think there was a group of hippies from Berkeley that took a road trip to Washington D.C. to protest the Vietnam war... (surprise)

Collosus: The Forbin Project was also filmed in part at LBL (Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970))

One of the scenes in Harold and Maude was filmed at the Berkeley mud flats (Harold and Maude (1971)). Others were filmed at the Santa Cruz boardwalk

Here is a list of mysterey novels set in the bay area Golden Gate Mysteries compiled by one of the CAL librarians

They filmed a Bollywood film here on campus a few months ago; I can't wait untill that one comes out: it should be awesome!

I just watched this like yesterday ahah
Lily from My Princess Diaries 2 (and 1) had on a BERKELEY shirt
and is supposedly going to berkeley for her grad education.

Heh, the most obvious one hasn't been mentioned: "Berkeley." The whole movie is about Berkeley / 60s / a student. Seems like a good movie, but I haven't seen it yet. It has the Fonz in it!
