Moving In - August 18

If you're moving in on the day the residence halls open, what time are you planning to get there in line (even though the doors don't open until 9)?

When I was a frosh I planned to go earlier, but ended up just going in the later afternoon, after all the crazy people who were there super early had been checked in.

Beatty Towers is the only one it REALLY matters for.

Are you trying to make sure you get the better bed/desk in your room?

How crazy is it on the 18th in the morning? I figured it would be crazier on the 19th-20th since that is Friday-Saturday.

Zaersz: Yeah, I’m in a late-app triple and do not want the top bunk and both of my roommates said they’re going to get there as early as possible, unfortunately.

rjpfl: I heard it’s insane since people want to get the better beds/closets/etc. My dad told me that at Preview they told him if you want to move in at 9 when the halls open, you should get there way earlier…

Many of the “late app triples” only have 1 bed that is close to the floor. My son was in a triple last year that had a set of standard bunk beds and another bed that was also raised in order to get the third desk underneath it. That was the only way to get 3 desks, 3 chest of drawers and another wardrobe (closet) in the room. Many of the triples only have 2 built in closets with another free standing one. That means that only the first person to check will get a lower bed. My son was second to arrive in his room and had an upper bed but didn’t mind at all. He found that many of the things he was concerned about before he moved in became non issues when he got on campus. He chose to live in the same dorm this year but will be in a double.

A lot of freshmen are going to be moving in on the 18-19th because there is supposedly the “mandatory” convocation thing on the 20th. I’m moving in on the 18th in the afternoon (probably around 4-5PM).

I say get there as early as possible…I had a permanent triple last year, and I ended up with the smallest closet (half the size of the other built in closet), no wall space whatsoever, and a top bunk. It sucked. I hope you have better luck! :D
