Moving in for Upperclassmen

Does everyone move in on that Friday or is it more of mixed lot over the entire weekend? Trying to figure out if DH and I need to get off of work or if we can move DS in on Sunday.

From our experience, depending on the dorm of course, but most upperclassmen move in throughout the day on Friday or early Saturday. With getting moved in and settled, plus house meetings/activities and meeting new freshman, our S always wanted to move in as soon as the dorms opened Friday morning. A few of his friends weren’t able to move in until late Saturday/early Sunday, however.
The worst part about the move-in for upperclassmen is there is no one to help, unlike freshman year!

Do they at least have the bins for us to use?

I didn’t realize parents participated in upperclassmen move in? DS, at another school, managed all his own moves after we moved him in as freshman so was never around in the fall.

It is just driving him there and dropping him off. He cannot manage all his stuff on the el.

Yes, thankfully there were bins.

The only thing I participated in was driving the 12 hours to get to UChicago with a truck full of dorm items and helped lug it up the four flights of stairs. Quite a few parents helped with move in, but many kids also came from the airport on their own. Whatever works for your family.

Thank you!! That is all we are planning as well. Didn’t think that was a strange question… :frowning:

^^No, no, didn’t mean to imply that at all. I and the kids all went/will go to non-driving distance schools so had never thought about upperclassmen move in (other than I knew it occurred with DS).

^^^Thanks!
