Recently I have been accepted to UCB. So let’s say one of my parents move to California during the summer and rent a house there. Will I be able to get in state tuition?
To save yourself the hassle of a ton of research, it’ll basically be impossible to become a resident and receive in state tuition.
You and your parent need to live in California a year before attending UCB to establish residency.
It will take at least one year of paying OOS. It’s not impossible though.

Thanks for your replies. Since there are 4 years of college. If my parents moved to Cali for a year, will I qualify for in state? And what counts as proof of permanent residence - would a rented house count as permanent? Also, does the parent requires income or is residency all that is required?
P.S. My parent already have Cali driver license for some reason.
from the link that Yomama12 posted, it seems very unlikely you could get in state tuition:
Here is all you need to know on how to establish California residency for tuition purposes:
Renting a place is fine. Everyone having CA driver’s license with cars registered in CA is a must. Opening up a bank account from CA is also a must. To have a realistic chance, both of your parents should move and ‘cut ties’ with whatever previous state you had.
^But the pages linked says all this must be done for 366 days prior to enrollment. OP is already accepted. It’s too.late.
I think the links make it clear, but my husband teaches at Cal Poly and this comes up frequently so I will summarize:
Financial aids and grants that are only open to CA residents require that you go to a CA high school.
For your parents to establish that they are CA residents, your parents or the parent you reside with must have been living in CA for a minimum of 366 days before enrollment. However, just having a residence in CA or having a CA driver’s license is not enough to prove you are a resident, the school will also look at taxes filed (amended tax returns are not accepted), W-2’s (to see which state earnings came from), voting records, financial documents such as bank accounts, etc.
For you to establish CA residency for yourself, in addition to the residency requirement, you will have to show that no one has claimed you as a dependent on a tax return for the two years prior to requesting status as a resident and that during those two years you were supporting yourself entirely with a job, loans taken out in your name only and/or savings from a bank account in your name only.
Some CA schools enforce these rules more strictly than others. However, Berkeley (and Cal Poly) are two of the strict ones.
