If my parents move to California, after a year can I establish in state residency and therefore in state tuition at UC Berkeley.
I know it is bad to move for the sole purpose of this, but my parents have been talking about moving for some time and this might be the tipping point.
Thanks
The only way that would work is if your parents move to California and establish residency at least 12 months before you enroll at a UC.
You’d have to get into Berkeley, too. That is getting even harder.
Among other criteria, your parents and you would have to live in California for 1 year before starting school to obtain in state tuition. My Ds first roommate at UC Berkeley did just that. Her family moved to California after junior year. She finished senior year high school in California and applied to several UCs.
If you start school as an OOS student, you are classified as an OOS for the duration. Your parents moving to California would not change your status.
thanks for the clarification @TomSrOfBoston @svlab112
I’ve recently gotten in and thats why I was wondering this. @intparent
Ah, well, then it is too late.
yep… oh well. id have preferred to stay in my state for my senior year and not take the risk of getting rejected. @intparent
