Moving your entire life to UCLA?

September is going to be crazy!
When I first applied to UCLA, I was going to commute. Now I'm going to live in Hedrick Summit.
I was going to keep my current job, which is obviously off campus.
I start my on campus job this Thursday.
It looks like UCLA went from being just a school to the center of my life. It'll probably take some adjusting, but this should be fun.

Anyone else think they were only going to be attending school at UCLA, only to realize that they're going to breathing it 24-7?

My original plan was just to attend UCLA, but as the date gets closer and closer I’m sure I’m going to be spending a lot more time on campus than anticipated. Since I’ll be commuting, I decided that I’d be better off getting a job on campus so that I could limit the car/bus trips and make some friends outside of class. I also thought it would be good to actually know what my school looks like, since I hadn’t even seen the entirety of my community college until last month. I don’t plan on living on campus for right now, but I’m not ruling out the possibility of becoming an RA in my senior if I don’t study abroad.

@thinkgolden: hey is that a work study job? If it is, are we allowed to get those already? Thanks!

Throw yourself into school 100%! It’s just a few years. Throw yourself in 100%.

That’s what I did. I joined a fraternity, lived in Hedrick Summit, etc.

No, I declined work study. In most cases, I think you’ll end up making more if you just take the rate they pay you. I don’t think it’s too early to get a work study job though, on my application it asked whether I was doing work study or not. The entire process from submitting my application to getting hired took about 72 hours.

It looks like that’s what I’ll be doing. No fraternity though, I have enough on my plate with ROTC.

Wait, how do we get on campus jobs without work study? Did you do it on BruinWalk??

Most departments that are hiring have applications available online. I didn’t use BruinWalk, I thought that was for viewing ratings on professors.

@thinkgolden: Thank you! Do you mind me asking which department did you apply to or what website you used? I keep trying to find something on the ucla website but haven’t been successful yet :/

bump for matchcuttos question

@DCSPORTSFAN: I apologize. I always forget that I’m the only transfer student worried about relocating to Westwood and finding a job to pay for college.

@matchcutto

Maybe I’m missing something, but didn’t DCSPORTSFAN just second the request for an answer to the question you asked? “Bump” means making a needless post in order to put a thread back on top, getting it more attention in hopes of getting a response.

But maybe I really am missing something. :-)

Ah. We should have a list of term or something. Sorry DCSPORTSFAN and thank you nick_scheu… someone else had said it meant take the thread off.

But yeah, it would be good to know.

Here are two sites:

[ORL Employment and Leadership Opportunities](Employment Opportunities | Residential Life)
[Bruin OnLine Jobs](http://www.bol.ucla.edu/jobs/)

Thank you! Thank you!

total misunderstanding man, i wanted the answer to your question

@DCSPORTSFAN: Yes, that took me a while, sorry.

Other departments that are hiring: UCLA PD and the Library.

P.S. The library won’t take apps until Sept 6th.

Getting a job on campus would be so much easier. I want to stay in Westwood most of my time instead of commuting. Specially with Wilshire traffic :(
