I was looking to fill my last 2 units with a course on guitar. Apparently they took out MPGU-101mx, and now there is only MPGU-120A. Has anyone taken this class? I couldn't really find much information on it, so any information, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated.

I was actually looking for an individual instruction class for beginning guitar. There isn’t much of a course description on the [MPGU | USC Schedule of Classes](302 Found) site given. Anyone?

mpgu-120a is a great class. nick stoubis is awesome and you get out whatever you put in. i took the class last semester and am still playing the guitar.

Hm, does that class focus on the theory and history of guitar playing more than it does on the actual playing?

Cool stuff I need to buy a guitar… Any suggestions for the class specifically; acoustic or electric?

most people use acoustic. the class some really basic theory (how to construct chords, how to read music etc.) but a lot of it is learning to actually play. it is a great start to see if you like playing or not. you will tell pretty quick by how much you want to practice outside class and how much you learn on your own.

I’m bumping this thread up! I decided to take MGPU-120a after all. I was wondering if it’s advisable to buy a guitar beforehand, or if the instructor gives some leeway once the class begins. Or maybe the university provides some cheap, basic ones to borrow? :)
