MPulse Musical Theatre Workshop 2013

I heard that last year they had one sophomore girl get in and then she wound up leaving after few days. Not sure why. Sometimes I wonder if it should only be for rising seniors. However, I do not make the rules and maybe it is a chance to “practice” applying to these programs so when you are a rising senior, you have more under your belt for experience. Mpulse has an excellent reputation, but so many of these summer programs do. Even though our D was wait listed (and I am so curious to what that “short list” is- I mean, how many are on it)- We have few irons in other summer options that are awesome opportunities for so many of these kids. Sometimes with these things it just a matter of fate as well. Did the people who were waiting for an answer to wether or not they got in hear anything yet?
That would be torture.

Here’s what it says:
The workshop is open to 2012-2013 high school juniors, although applications from 2012-2013 tenth graders of exceptional ability and experience are considered.

I think the word considered can mean “after juniors” if they want it to. This is good practice for the ambiguous auditions to come. Junior year my son “considered” them and said No Thanks. It all works out for the best.

Just an update – My sophomore D was not accepted and we did not hear at all on March 1st. Some mix up in the way her email address was entered. We called this morning and the woman in the office was very nice and very responsive. Oh well, it sounds like she is in good company with the other sophomores who were not accepted. I thought the website was pretty clear and we knew it was a total longshot. Now fingers are crossed for Interlochen.

Hi Everybody,
Thank you for all your posts, last year’s as well. They are very helpful. Well, I thought I’d share with you for those interested that, YES, My daughter was accepted. She is thrilled, and yes, she is a sophomore. We did receive an email, Friday, March 1, around 1 pm. Actually, we were not aware that any acceptance or denials were coming out.

It is very exciting, and I know it is a real disappointment not to get in. My regards to all of you as I’m sure everybody is talented. As you know, the arts are always subjective.

I do hope that somebody could help me fill in some of my questions. I am concerned that being a sophomore, and entering Junior year and not Senior year, that this pgm is too soon. Could somebody who has attended please put me at ease about this question?? (and then I read about the sophomore girl who left?) My daughter will be giving up some other incredible opportunities to attend MPulse, which she is totally psyched about getting accepted to and is choosing MPULSE over others. THANKS

Congrats! Hmmmmmmmmm. Sounds like your D knows exactly what’s she is doing! I am sure she will be fine.

Dear Hmmmmmmmm:

My daughter was accepted as a sophomore as well. It was a WONDERFUL experience in so many ways. She is a sophomore MT in college now and is still reaping the rewards of spending those 3 weeks in Ann Arbor. Please feel free to PM me if i can answer any questions for you.

Thank you so much offering your experiences (your daughter’s). Any and all info would be helpful!! Also, I can’t seem how to figure out “PM”.

hmmmmmmmmmm, you don’t have enough posts to PM.

Magic number needed to reach before being allowed to send private messages is 15. Now only 4 more to go. [this where I insert the emoticon of eyes rolling, but don’t know/care how to do.]

Oh, big congrats to your D, hmmmmmmmm. Quite the accomplishment!

Now only three, er, two more posts to go.

I am wondering if it is too late for my son to now apply for one of the other modules offerings after being rejected for mt. Has anyone done this?

Thanks on your “congrats”!!

Check out the deadlines. If you are under them, why not? We would but we know we need a new monologue and there is just no time for that. Pesky thing called school!

Hmmmmm…

I was able to send YOU a private message with my email address! Let me know if you don’t get it…

Hi there- Does anyone have any word on the “short” waitlist? Like how many kids are on it? And has anyone been accepted to Mpulse and is not going out there? Just throwing it out to the wind!!!

I emailed Mpulse asking about the short wait list and was told it was not ranked and was “very short”. I’m not sure how to interpret that. Am I correct that those accepted have until May 1 to confirm their spot in the program?

oh jeez, that is so vague! what is “short” to them? is it two or 20 kids? and how could it not be ranked? How in the heck would they choose someone? Oh well, we have to toss it up to fate. I do believe the May1 is the deadline- I guess it would be hard for them to give more info out.

When we were accepted we had 1 week to accept.

thank you theatremomma!
