MS in BME, BS in...?

I really want to get a degree in Biomedical Engineering, but from what I’ve heard it is not wise to do so for a BS so I plan on getting an MS in BME. But I’m not sure what my BS should be in. I was thinking ME because it is the most broad engineering but would that be a good preparer for BME? I don’t think I want to do Electrical, and although I’m very interested in Comp Eng I don’t know if that would help for BME. I love physics and bio and I’m a senior in high school right now. I’m interested in prosethetics, and creating medical devices that will help people.

Given that quote right there, then I’d say yes, ME would be a good place to start. It sounds like you would be interested in the field of biomechanics, which is pretty heavily represented in many ME departments. Honestly, you wouldn’t even necessarily have to do BME at all depending on what your eventual desired career path becomes. That sort of work is handled in a number of different departments.

Oh alright, thanks! There isn’t really much information about how to take the best route to become a biomedical engineer.

The job master for BSE in BME is small. You often need a master degree in BME to find a job. Nevertheless, I know grad students in ME and EE actually working on BME projects.

If you want to go the medical device route and are interested in computer science, electrical engineering would make an excellent undergrad major. Then, for your science electives, choose as many mechanical engineering classes as you can. Electrical engineering is generally harder to learn than mechanical, so if you can do electrical, you can pretty much do anything lol.
