MS in Geology or Pet Eng

Right now I am an undergrad student and will be graduating with a BS in Geology next year. My goal is to someday obtain a management position in the oil and gas industry, I know I will eventually pursue an MS degree but I would like to hear your thoughts on which one would be most beneficial a MS in Geology or an MS in Pet Eng? Does it really matter? I would appreciate any feedback.

Either are sought out by employers for their different expertises. If you’re still interested in geology and motivated to deepen that knowledge then take the MS in Geology.

If the geology’s lost its sparkle and you feel you’ve got the pre-reqs to do well in the chemistry and engineering elements then choose that.

Engineering really sparks my interest but my local university does not offer engineering degrees (CSUB) so Geology would be my best option to get me started in the industry. I know that a Masters will really open more doors but I’m just wondering if an MS in Pet Eng would be more helpful. If I did go for the engineering degree I would probably do it online maybe (USC). I’ve been looking up the bios of oil company executives and most of them have some sort of engineering degree.
