@TheSpartan
I am a transfer applicant for the Engineering School, with 60+ credits, and you are correct.
They first see if you admissible to MSU as a whole, they call that a preliminary review, once they find you are admissible they send the application to the specific school.

I just got an email this morning saying my portal has been updated, to find this message within portal:

“The Office of Admissions has completed a preliminary review of your application for Fall 2014. The next phase of the review process requires for your credentials to be evaluated against the standards established by MSU’s College of Engineering.”

How long did you wait for your final decision after the preliminary review of your application was completed?
My major is engineering, and the preliminary review of my application has completed yesterday.

My boyfriend still hasn’t heard back. It’s been more than 12 weeks, and there hasn’t been any change to his portal since late January/early February. That’s when we found out it was “currently under review”. Should we call?

Hello. The office of the registrar gave me an email saying they have finished processing my transfer equivalency credits.
Anyway I had 70 credits I could transfer from LCC and 5 credits from AP Exams scores.
They ended up giving me 55 credits from LCC and 5 from AP, anyway I dislike the classes they chose to ‘pick’ for me to transfer over.
I took 8 credits off fitness over at LCC and they decided to take transfer those wasteful credits instead of differential equations and Calc 1 for example. And I have other examples of this.

In the end does it really matter(seriously idk) or should i fight to change what classes they chose to transfer over.

For those that got accepted; how much volunteering did you do? I’ve heard that MSU likes to see volunteering in addition to the other requirements. I am looking to apply in August for the winter semester. I did 4 years active duty Army and 2 years National guard, have my state EMT licence (took course at LCC), and have about 38-40 credits with a 3.6 gpa.

I attended Grand Rapids CC after high school and ended up receiving an F in a 3 credit Study Skills class that they not longer offer(can’t retake it), and 2 criminal justice classes which i received B’s in (3 credits a piece). Fast forward 7 years later(after the military) and in the past 2 semesters.

Also taking a full load of classes in the summer ~15 credits which i will 4.0

What else can i do to improve my chances? i’m 26 and am wanting to go into Neuroscience and then medical school. I’m volunteering at the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.

Make sure they’re offering an application for the winter semester. Last year they didn’t and I thought I read somewhere that they weren’t offering it this year because of the number of applicants for the fall semester.

Accepted this week as a Public Policy major for Fall of '14 after Michigan State requested my final semester transcripts. In-state, 58 credits (62 after summer session), mostly STEM and social science courses, 3.5 GPA, and a few modest extracurricular activities. I applied back in mid-November with my transcripts, but didn’t “self-report” my grades until maybe March, and this delayed my application drastically, which I believe compelled the Dept. of Admissions to require my final grades. Overall, the entire process was lengthy and felt inefficient at times. However, I am extremely excited to be a Spartan!
