MSU HSHSP, UC Davis YSP, UCSB Research as sophomore?

What is the number of sophomores that attend these programs? I really want to go, but I have another one week camp that I really want to participate in :/ so I was wondering if this was even worth modifying my summer plans for... Are these all junior dominated camps?

Quick stats:
10th Grade
4.0 GPA UW, maybe one B+ in honors chem this semester
Biology SAT: 770
PSAT: 210 <---- god, i feel so dumb
AP (self study) Human Geography and Envi Sci both 5's
no previous research experience

i know that HSHSP only takes 1-2 sophomores, if any at all.

edit: why do you feel dumb with a 210? did you take it cold, as a sophomore? because I think thats a great score…

Thanks, I’m still undecided about applying…

Just because most of my friends did better, and I could easily have had 80 in mouth except I had some really dumb mistakes. Would’ve brought me to 220… Yeah, I took it cold.

Same here. My math mistakes brought me down and I couldn’t reach a 220. Nevertheless, a 210 is a great score.

Have you already secured a research position at UCSB?

I’ve also heard good things about YSP. If worse comes to worse, you could always do COSMOS which is also located at the UC’s.

No, but UCSB has a research mentorship program that I’m thinking about applying too…
I am definitely applying to COSMOS, just wondering if I should modify my summer schedule to even try for HSHSP and YSP.

well…it wouldn’t hurt to apply to either program, would it? theres nothing to lose, so you might as well.

Its just that theres this one week program I want to work at. it’s not academically related but I like doing it and it would interfere with the first week of these programs…

How about SSTP at University of Iowa? Anyone know about the number of sophomores there?

I say apply first, research the programs intensively, and then make a decision. I haven’t attended any of these programs myself, but some of my friends went to HSHSP (as juniors), and it is a great experience.
