MT Notification Dates and Methods Spring 2014

@tarheelmtmom, at the TCU info session at LA Unifieds, they told us they move kids around in their programs, sometimes to BA, because they feel it would be a better fit. With that said, they also told us they are occasionally wrong, and after participating in the BA program, kids can re-audition the following year for BFA MT. Hope that helps and congratulations on the acceptance packet!

Thanks rbgirl. Guess we will see, but if isn’t BFA then it will definitely fall to the bottom of the pile for my D.

Baldwin Wallace – Offers: sent via snail mail by 3/20. Rejections: Same time as wait list and acceptance offers. Financial Aid notifications 2 weeks later.

Ball State University – Offers are extended by March 1st. Waiting list students selected the week following. All students accepted and/or on waiting list will be called directly and receive a snail mail letter. Rejections are sent out on a rolling basis. Scholarships are determined by the middle of March.

Boston Conservatory – Offers: late March to early April. Rejections: ? Financial Aid notification: ?

Carnegie Mellon – They call the kids who are accepted in the 3rd week in March. Everyone else finds out via snail mail that they’ve been rejected.

CCM - this year seems to be different than previous. Online status updated first, followed up by snail mail. Accepted students receive an email from Aubrey Berg shortly after online status is updated. Rejections have been sent a week or 2 after audition. A few offers made this year with the majority still at no decision at this time.

Coastal Carolina – Decisions: Rolling. Some offers/rejections sent after the November on campus auditions; most students deferred. Deferred students and all those who audition in the spring (on campus or Chicago) are notified in Mid-March- approximately 2 weeks after our final on-campus audition. Typically these notifications are sent via email from Department Chair, Ken Martin, but on occasion a phone call is made. You must be accepted into the university before you are offered a spot in the program. Financial aid notification: Performing arts scholarships are sent with the offer. Academic scholarships are separate.

Emerson – Decision: by Apr 1 via application portal at 1pm EST.

Indiana – MId to late March

Ithaca – Rejections: beginning mid Feb. Most offers come later. Acceptances posted on MyIthaca account, starting in late February and continuing in unpredictable pattern through March; rejections seemed to be communicated by USPS and then disabling the student’s MyIthaca account. Like last year, some acceptances are being received within a few weeks after audition, via snail mail. “No decisions until auditions are finished” stated by adjudicator (though as of 2/18 there appear to be a couple of acceptances per The Unifieds)

James Madison University: Acceptance to university on admissions portal; official letter from theater/MT program arrived 1-2 days later; my son also received an e-mail from program director telling him he would be getting an acceptance letter from the theater department. Students admitted to the university EA will hear whether or not they have also been admitted to the program in early March. Students admitted to the university RD will hear whether or not they have also been admitted to the program shortly after they find out they are accepted academically to the university… usually by April 1. All academically admitted students to the university will receive a letter from the program. Some students admitted to the program may also receive an email notification or a phone call. Students who are not admitted academically to the university will not hear from the program whether or not they would have been admitted.

Marymount – snail mail, goes out in waves starting now (mid-Feb)

Montclair – rolling. Decisions about 3 weeks after audition. Apparently Montclair automatically considers MT applicants (some? all?) for their Acting program/major as well, and posts the Acting decision separately on the CheckMyStatus page from the MT decision, then follows up each online status with a snail mail confirmation.

NYU/Tisch – Decisions by Apr 1st after 5pm via email (per website). 2 weeks later for which program.

Otterbein–The arts admissions coordinator calls accepted students directly on their cell phones. Last year it was on March 13th. Official letter including scholarship information came a few days later. Not sure about notification for waitlist–those might get phone calls too?–rejections, I believe, come by mail.

Pace – Academic acceptances: Rolling. MT acceptances: by Mar 30 via phone call but Amy said they hoped for mid-March. MT Rejections: mid-late March via email. Scholarships offered with academic acceptance. Financial aid: ?

Penn State – Decisions: they have a team “decision Sunday” in mid-March the Sunday after the last audition, which this year is Sat, Feb 22. with acceptance notifications going out that week (via ?). Rejections for MT program from Chicago Unifieds have come via online portal + they disable PSU portal log in. Rejections have also come via snail mail dated 4 days after NY Unifieds audition. The decision meeting has been the day after the last on campus audition in years past. Decisions are sent to the Admissions office the Monday after the decision meeting and Admissions sends out snail mail acceptances on Tuesday. The 12 to 14 accepted will usually receive them by the end of that week. Of course, this is not written in stone and I have no inside info - just going by what has happened the last 4 years. This year when my D was filling out her paperwork at the door they also got her to put her number on the sheet with a list of available times to call the number. The director said that would be used for acceptances but that emails could also be used. UPDATE: as of 2/19, myPenn application status portal changed to indicate application is being reviewed and a decision will be coming in the near future (speculations are for late Feb)

Point Park - Academic decisions are rolling. MT decisions 2 or 3 times per year via snail mail. This year it was end of January. Remaining decisions to be sent in two batches: one after their meeting on March 5 and the second after their meeting on March 15. Scholarships are sent with decisions

Rider - Seems to be rolling admissions… Quite a few students accepted/rejected already, to both acting and MT. Notification made via snail mail letter a few weeks after the audition date.

Roosevelt CCPA – Decisions: sent by mid-March via email. (decisions came late March last year)

Shenandoah – One - two weeks after audition

Syracuse – Decisions: begin early March via email

University of Michigan – Acceptances late Feb (according to some old notes from spring 2013 campus visit)

University of the Arts – rolling. Decisions about 3 weeks after audition.

Webster – last week of March for acceptances and rejections

Wright State - Rolling admissions - decisions by snail mail approx 2 weeks after audition

Carefully copy and paste the list AND the instructions. Add your info so that it appears in red. To use red, you would post it like this BUT YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY OF THE SPACES INSIDE THE BRACKETS SO REMOVE THEM:

@tarheelmtmom…THEN AGAIN…who knows. It totally could be an admission to the school until they make their final decisions. Too bad the universities don’t all follow the same procedures! UCF’s portal is so nice, “Congratulations on your acceptance” but then wait…“MT pending”…blah.

rbgirl - where do you see MT pending on UCF portal?

@Raam1012- look under app status. It says “muscial theatre pending”. D also received a letter from UCF admissions saying “It is our pleasure to offer you admission” and "Our records show that your intended major is “Theatre Pending” on Feb. 3rd. PENDING!!! ugh. So now she waits–such a bummer because D was invited for a final audition (tomorrow actually) but is unable to attend in person. It is just too expensive for our family to make that big trip at this time. Did you submit the Acceptd video and get a callback? I’m guessing if the panel decides a “no” for our D, then the offer will be rescinded or maybe just a BA offer? I’m not sure.

Your story is my story - Acceptd video, invited for call back - originally scheduled for tomorrow but we too can no longer make it. We received same acceptance letter “theater pending” letter dated 9/8/13 - yes we were very early. Portal doesn’t have anything that indicates musical theatre - I just looked through everything - no mention of it. It shows acceptance to university but nothing more. :-S

@Raam1012 you are right. It’s only the letter that states “pending”. I had the letter in my lap when I was typing you, but just went back into the portal to confirm and it doesn’t have the major listed. Our stories are identical. Sorry about the mix up. I think I’ve read too many portals and am starting to lose it.

rbgirl - Just saw this after I read your PM - now it makes sense.

How did you all find out your PSU portals were deactivated? What did the message say?

@ddBroadway2 It’s very similar to Ithaca’s deactivation. When she tries to log in to the PSU portal, she gets a message that reads “An Error has occurred. Our web developers have been notified, and they will investigate the cause of this error. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please go back, review your information, and try again. If the error persists, please contact us at the Undergraduate Admissions Office via phone at 814-865-5471, or click on the “Contact Us” link at admissions.psu.edu.”

That error message does NOT mean the portal has been deactivated. It truly is a website error. I have noticed this several times this week at different times of the day, but then later on I was able to log in no problem. Ithaca does disable but this PSU error message is legit and not a disable of account.

Ok. Thanks @doremimom. @dreamgirl1, we have been having similar issues with the portal for the last two days! Started furiously checking when notifications began going out but my daughter can only access the portal about 50% of the time, if that. So much suspense!

I had the same problems with the mypennstate portal – I had to clear my cache and cookies to get back on. Try it on a different device if you keep getting that error message.

@assttothemt thanks! I’m still a little confused… Can you log in now or will it no longer let you? In the information above it says ‘account disabled and status changed’ but how can you see your status if your account is down? Ha thanks.

@ddBroadway2 Hmmm… I do not get an “account disabled and status changed” phrase on myPennState – I get the error that @DoReMiMom put in quotes in her comment above, and nothing more. But I can’t get on right now at all. When I was able to get on the other day, the rejection letter invited my D to consider changing her major, and we haven’t done anything with that yet (probably won’t, either) but that might be why she could still get in after being rejected from MT. Or did you have the same thing?

The error message has nothing to do with account being disabled. It truly is just a site issue. At different times of day you can still log in. The “disabled” message may be what you see on ithaca and the 2 are being confused here?

@assttothemt we checked when everyone else was having status changes. At first we couldn’t get on and then when we logged in we didn’t have a status change. we were able to get on before we went to sleep with the same status as always. However now it’s morning and we can’t get on at all! It’s just showing the error message. not quite sure what to make of this… Wondering if maybe all accounts go down every time they make changes to statuses.

Could be…but seeing the error message should not make anyone feel it is any sign of rejection. I have been seeing the error all week long and still at certain times been able to log back in to no status change.

Ok thanks @dreamgirl1. Trying not to freak out!
