MT Notification Dates and Methods Spring 2014

Unfortunately schools will continue to send through the end of May and June. We had one school send something in September that said they keep applications on file for 3 years

Sorry entertainersmom. I agree with you. This happened to my D too when she was waiting for acceptances–it was really annoying and sort of depressing.

@doremimom she didn’t even make it past the call back stage from the prescreens!

I would think/hope that one could call admissions and ask to be removed from their mailing lists. Receiving these has to be bothersome!

Please understand that it is not unusual at all for Admissions departments to send info about other majors when a prospective student has been rejected from the MT department but academically accepted by the college/university. It is NO different than any other application to admission where the prospective is academically admitted to the institution but not the major applied for. The letters come from the Admissions departments and their offer to major in something else is standard policy. The Admissions department treats the MT major the same as any other major. They don’t understand that MT prospectives are not about to accept majoring in another major. But don’t get upset or annoyed with them! It’s nothing personal - it’s just standard policy. Many, many prospectives will consider another major to go to a specific school. That’s just not the case with MTs. Just decline graciously and ask them to take you off their mailing lists.

I think my blood pressure has skyrocketed reading the posts in this section LOL.
I thought i had this under control, but I am finding myself watching for the mail now and checking web portals.
I think I may need a glass of wine :p

Montclair: If status has changed for my D and says “YES MUTR” does that mean she HAS been accepted into the MT BFA? Previously she was academically accepted by UNDER REVIEW for the BFA.
We are on the west coast, and if a packet is coming, it will take an extra day or 2.

Univ. of Northern Colorado: Program has changed from Undecided ? to XLA (Musical Theatre)-Z
Prior to that the Major read : XLA (Seeking Musical Theatre). and still reads XLA (Seeking Musical Theatre)

Regarding schools that reject students from their BFAs but offer them admittance elsewhere.
Of course that is not what many will do, but we know of a few older friends who auditioned to Musical Theatre programs and did not get into ANY. Two ended up at PACE and are enjoying their college experience very much. One ended up at another program in upstate New York, and is doing non-theater majors theater projects on campus and off. Just want to offer some encouragement.

Not taking the mailings personally, and I know the school would like the student attend. Sometimes the timing isn’t that great.
ButterflyFX -Re: Montclair, I believe your D is in!!! Call to confirm, but Congratulations!!!

Montclair for my S…“NO MUTR”. Add it to the pile.

@redscorpion6 So sorry to hear that. :(

Ohio Northern question - D was accepted academically and auditioned during Chicago Unifieds. She just got an email from ONU through Acceptd that says “After reviewing your profile we think that you should apply for our program…” I assume that this is a computer snafu and doesn’t really mean anything. Anybody else seen something like this?

We got the same message but from the ONU music department. I don’t know if that helps.

For those who asked, my D auditioned for Montclair and Northern Colorado at NY Unifiieds in late January.

Ours came from the music department as well. I’m sure that it’s just a coincidence.

Same message here from ONU.

We got the ONU message, also ‘reviewed profile on acceptd’, and my S is only a Junior. Bulk messaging?

We got the ONU message too. We have not communicated with ONU at any time. Must just be a bulk email to all with acceptd accounts

Ditto – def bulk/spam emailing in action.

I would call just to be sure that they connect the academic acceptance with the audition. I think the name of the contact for MT is Christen Monson (sp?)

I am so glad someone sent me the link to this page thank you so much. I am so anxious for my son. He has had a no from CCM and a wait list from Baldwin we have 3 others we are waiting on and one more audition in March. this has been the most grueling process I have ever been through. I think it is just as hard if not harder on the parents when a rejection comes. All these kids have worked so hard.

My S has the opposite - no from BW, wait list from CCM. I wish I could crack the code on how schools do it all, so interesting and baffling and nerve wracking.
