MT Rejections-Plan B

We have gotten 2 NO letters and are awaiting good news from others. Does anyone have a good plan B for MT majors that may not get accepted? Do you know of any colleges where they dont have to audition for acceptance?

MTMomTN - First, don’t give up hope. I presume you still have several to hear from? Did you choose a safety school for your D/S? Most schools have 3/1 deadlines for applications, so it would be challenging to find a non-audition program at this point, but not impossible. Maybe some of the schools your D/S applied to for MT also have non-auditioned BA programs? Go to each college’s website and explore their departments. If you want to find a list of the non-auditioned MT programs, go to the thread pinned at the top of the forum called “Big List of MT Programs by Type.” It lists all the programs by audition vs non-audition.

I think Columbia in Chicago is non audition and has rolling admissions. I’ve also read here on CC about the Cap 21 program through Molloy College that is still taking applications. I’m sure there may be others as well. There are also threads on CC that weigh the pros and cons of doing a gap year and re-auditioning next year. You might search those for advice. But still hoping you get some good news soon!

Also hoping there are acceptances coming your way! There are some programs where students audition at the end of freshman year/during sophomore year to move into the BFA. I know one program with that format is Hofstra. They offer a minor in MT to go along with the BFA in Performance.

Here is the Big List:

Another school with rolling admissions and late audition dates is Oakland University in Michigan - it draws mainly a regional group to auditions - but has a solid BFA program. They have an audition date March 22 - and then one in the summer sometime. It’s located in Rochester, MI - in Metropolitan Detroit.
