…still waiting to hear from CMU, BoCo, Uarts, and Webster…

I got accepted to Shorter College in GA

Musical_Maranda - Please keep your chin up, you still have more schools to hear from.
This is such a hard process and as a parent of a kid going through this I can feel your pain.

We are all hoping for good news for you soon!

Musical_Maranda - just wanted to let you know that my oldest d is pursuing a doctorate degree in music at the University of Georgia, however, she has recently been to Shorter College and was very impressed with their program. She said it was really up and coming.

Just thought I’d share  Best of luck, you really will end up where you need to be.

Starbird: I know, there’s a million of us! But congrats on Ithaca! I got rejected from one of my “back ups” as well, but you’re right… It’s so random. There are so many factors outside of our control! Time, place, person watching, the vibe you get, etcetera etcetera etcetera. Nothing we can do about all of that now except hope for the best.

Ithaca Rejection today!!! That’s ok!!! Rejection comes with the business, keep strong everyone!

Thanks so much Operamom and Showmom, I really appreciate the encouragement! That’s great to hear that she was impressed by the program :-D

It is not looking good for a MT acceptance for my D…what are other options at this late stage? Is anyone familiar with Fullerton Jr. College in CA? They have a 2 year program but don’t get a bfa/ba. Are there 2 year options? Would this be a good idea? any prep programs out there if you want to retry again next year? This is soooooooooo hard!

Mainely mom
Did she apply to any 4 year state schools? Most of them have theater programs. She could begin her training there. CSUF is a great MT school, CSU LB has a great theater program (not MT), most UC’s offer solid theater training. Fullerton JC is a solid CC theater school with a strong faculty–she could study there but transferring to UC in theater is complicated. She could transfer after one or two years to CSU Fullerton but she would have to audition and they take very few. Even if she got in, she would probably take a total of 5 years to do it. Transferring to other BFA programs across the country many have pointed out is difficult and many would require student to start as a freshman again in the program.

Did you apply to any non-audition MT programs? Check the big list–don’t know how many might still accept late applications but some schools do.

AMDA is in LA - 2 or 4 year program depending on whether you want the artistic training only or if you want to go for degree. There are lots of 2 year training programs if you are not interested in the academic part (they tend to be pricey)

Another option is to take a gap year and work with a coach like MTCA, get training locally and reaudition next year. I know of several who have done that quite successfully.

There are many great posts on this forum–check SoozieVT on this subject. She is quite helpful with many great ideas. Remember there are many paths to this profession, including majoring in something else completely.

Don’t lose hope.

mainelymom - So sorry to hear things are not looking good for your D. Don’t know if your D would consider a school in Texas but Sam Houston State University holds their final audition April 23. They are doing Rent that weekend so you could see a performance as well.
[SHSU - Department of Drama](http://www.shsu.edu/~drm_www/auditions/Copy%20of%20musicalthrauditions.html)

My D has a friend who took a gap year and reauditioned this year. PM me if you are interested in how she prepared for this year (and yes, she was accepted this year.)

Mainlymom – sorry things are not going well for your D. It would be helpful to know how you put together your list of schools to audition for; perhaps the list was not well-balanced. It is important to have a mix of reach and safety schools, regarding both academics and auditions.
Many people take a gap year to prepare more thoroughly; others register for freshman year to get some basic academics, and then try to transfer. If you read through some of the threads on this board you will find descriptions of how others have dealt with this issue. Good luck!

mainelymom - There are also a few other schools listed that have April audition dates.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/759129-2009-2010-musical-theater-audition-dates-3.html?highlight=audition+dates+2009</a></p>

Best of luck!

Hi MainelyMom- Can I assume you from your name that you are from Maine? If so, just be aware that Fullerton CC fees will be very high (I think about $200/unit) as a non-resident. While that is not high for a BA or BFA MT program, it is pretty outrageous for a cc. Even if she were to attend, it does not guarantee admittance to a 4-year BA program after she finishes. I know they do offer a musical theater certificate, but I think for the most part the classes required are ones she may be able to get locally at a much lower cost for you. Does she have much experience in theater? Just thinking she might take a gap year to really hone her skills- take dance classes, voice classes etc, and audition for as much theater in your area as possible, to get ready to re-audition next year. Also be sure to go thru the list of schools at the top of this forum to come up with a list of schools that encompasses audition, non-audition, reach, non-reach, etc. If you are going to look at California schools, you might also look at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts (PCPA) at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. They offer a 2-yr. conservatory type training program, as well as “summer-stock” opportunities. It is well thought of, but again I don’t believe she could transfer to a 4-yr. program with it.

I know it must be heart-breaking for both of you at this point- don’t give up!

You could try looking into Jacksonville University in Florida. I recall reading somewhere on cc that the program is growing and that there are students who are really happy there. I believe they have a mid April audition date so it might not be too late to schedule an audition. Good luck and I agree with others - Don’t give up!!!

Thanks so much for all your advice! I am looking into all of your suggestions…it is so nice to have so much support.

I remember Coastal Carolina having late audition dates last year. Perhaps they have a late date this year also.

mainleymom, do you mind sharing your college list? I just want to see so that i dont fall into the same sort of situation as you did, which im deeply sorry about. I cant even imagine.

Emerson
Elon
Michigan

haven’t heard from CMU or Otterbein so I’m guessing it’s a no

…this is not looking good :-/

Megan— I’m sending you a PM! :-)

msc Jax Univ has an audition April 16th. It believe it is a non-audition program to get in and the audition is for scholarship. I have also heard good things about the program. The music director at my D school said that a boy left UCF to Jax U and was very happy.

My D applied to:

_Hart at Hartford Univ.
Cincinatti Conservatory
roosevelt
elon
Emerson
Ithaca
still haven’t heard from Syracuse and BOCO
Fullerton college, only back up , non auditioned program, anyone can get in pretty much…

The above all seem to take about 25 (half boys if possible) out of at least 800 applicants, the odds aren’t good and I didn’t realize this before we started or we would have added others.
