I remember seeing it in the Audition Day thread from last year …

My daughter was there recently. It is more of an interview. Very low key, low pressure. Actually a pleasant experience. She had a nice talk with Charles Richter about her resume and her interests and then she did her two contrasting monologues. He gave her useful feedback and she left feeling very positive about the experience and the school.

Muhlenberg, more so then most colleges, seems to put a very high value on getting to know their incoming students. Please take the time to not just do the interview with Charles Richter but also with the admissions department if your daughter likes the school and decides to apply. She can also sit in on a class if she makes the arrangements ahead of time. Best of luck!

Thanks all. C@4gsmom your D did not sing a song? was she going for MT?
@beenthereanddone my D actually did an admission interview in October, the rep came to LI for the interview and she loved the interview. Also Charlie R has my D scheduled to sit in on a acting class before her audition.
Happy to hear that as a first one it will be low key and encouraging.

He didn’t have her sing a song although she was prepared. She didn’t specifically say MT in her initial email so that’s probably why.

I auditioned at Muhlenberg in February 2014! It was one of my favorite auditions, Charles Richter was really nice and made the atmosphere very fun and low pressure. I didn’t go for MT, so I just did two monologues. I remember I did my pieces first and then he had me sit down for a short interview, though I don’t remember what he asked me. The audition was in the black box space, and there was no one in the room but him.

I also attended a class and really enjoyed it, the students there were welcoming and the teacher actually had me do a couple of exercises with the rest of the class. The tour was amazing, I really loved the school and I remember their facilities are beautiful. I almost ended up going there, I just loved it so much. It was such a fun, positive day. Good luck to your daughter!

@daniellececelia Thank you so much for the feedback!! This will definitely ease my daughters mind a bit.She said she has heard this from several people. The audition id Thirsday so I will update after that. Thanks again!!!

I posted this in Class of 2020 and realized I should have posted here:
D had first audition yesterday at Muhlenberg. It was a long day because she had stayed over with a student the night before, attended her morning voice lesson, then sat in on an acting class then straight to audition. She felt monologues went well but said song was not her best. She felt partly nerves, partly from not warming up first. Mr.Richter looked over resume and talked with her about it and her goals and she asked several questions and that was it. Initially she was going to do the dance audition but bc she needed a solo for it we cancelled that portion a while ago bc she felt she wouldnt have time to prepare solo. Wish it was just choreography and not solo, the kids have enough to prepare but would have been nice for them to see her dance abilities.

Are auditioners supposed to sing a full song? I don’t see a cut specified on their website.

I believe it was 16-32 bars. And he had a speaker to plug your iphone into.

To clarify for newbies that may be reading this, the Muhlenberg audition is for scholarship $, not for admission. But as others have said, they do take perceived interest into account, so it is recommended to do the interviews, establish a relationship by email with an admissions counselor and audition for Mr. Richter. It was a very positive experience for my D. And a good way to “get your feet wet” without the high stakes!
