Multicultural Celebration Weekend

I was pleasantly surprised to receive this invitation over email seeing as I am Chinese and am in no way underrepresented in these campuses...

Anyways, I was wondering what past attendees thought of the experience. It is going to conflict with a lot of my other college visits around that time, unfortunately.

Seconding your questions haha. I was wondering about this as well, especially as it seems like it is going to conflict with many schools’ visit weekends.
And also wondering on a side note, was this sent to all kids who got in, or based on a cultural criteria or something?

My internet hates me and double posted heheh…

Multicultural is not for URM’s only but rather for people from a wide range of backgrounds. My son attended that weekend a couple years ago and had a very good experience there.

So is anybody planning on going??

Absolutely! This is a free trip AND a visit to my future school. There’s no reason not to go. (Who honestly cares about attendance at this point in your life?)

accepted and going!

Lol, I know~ just wondering…
Right now WashU is my top school and Im super excited to get on that plane!

I am thinking about going. How many students do you think will be attending?

Probably a lot-ish… They said they have limited space, so probably more people want to go than there is room for

Are those of you attending staying with a current student?

I haven’t registered yet, but is that an option??

I’m so excited to be going back to st Louis. I spent last June there in their summer program and it was great. For those of you who have never visited washu before, I think you’re really gonna like it : )

Yeah, I’m probably going too haha… I just wish it wasn’t dubbed as “multi-cultural”

I’m attending, too. I’ve only visited once and I’m dying to go back.

I just RSVP’d yes, so I’ll see you all there. Interesting…I’m 50% Dutch-Indonesian, but have grown up in the “white” part of town and never really pegged myself as “multicultural.” I do enjoy some aspects of Indo/Dutch heritage (food, family), but I never thought it would win me a free trip to WUSTL! Who could turn down a free trip?

It is also the same weekend as Dimensions for Dartmouth (not that I applied) but I’m not sure if I will have other school visits. I want to go though!

How did you guys get invited to this? Email? Regular mail? Or is it on the WUSTL home page thing?
I got into WashU and I suppose I’m what some would consider “multicultural” but I didn’t put my race on my application; would that prevent my being invited?

I received an email from WUSTL. Yeah, I think you didn’t get invited because you didn’t put your race. There’s no way of telling unless your name is different.

The invitation was in my pathway inbox and I got an email. I agree with peachiekeen that not putting race down is probably why you didn’t get invited. You can still visit Wash U at their expense through April 28th, I think :)
