I was invited to attend the Tufts Telescope Multicultural program. Does anyone know if this is a good sign? I attended the program in late December, stayed overnight, had two on campus interviews (one with the region rep who I knew from earlier). I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the program will influence my decisions. Thanks!

It won't make or break your application, but it'll be noted that you have enough interest in the school -- i.e. if you are accepted, there's a good chance you'll choose to come here -- due to the time that you have dedicated to Tufts-admissions related activities.

I think the program is more geared towards you getting to know Tufts better, and promoting more diversity in our applicants/matriculating students. The facet of the program that would have the most effect on admissions, I think, would be the interview. And like lolabelle said, it shows that you have an active interest in Tufts.

I went back and checked the threads from last year. Only a couple of posts about the program, but someone commented that they went to the program and all but one of the people she got to know there ended up attending Tufts. I forgot to mention that I also filled out an experimental "test booklet essays" that "could only help, not hurt" my application. Combined with the interview on campus, travelling from Texas and the additional test booklet essays, do I have a hook? My GPA from Freshman year sucks, so my UW GPA is a 3.4, but Senior and Junior year I have made 3.7-3.8 in AP's and honors. I'm half japanese from hawaii, first generation scottish. Double Varsity captain, Political action club president, diversity meetings/clubs/committees. Basically, I've been dedicated and involved. I've also spent the past three summers teaching english in Thailand, Cambodia and China with my mother. My SAT I and II scores are in Tufts ranges. I'm not applying to any ivies, and Tufts is my absolute number one. Will my involvement make up for a low GPA? I've devoted so much time, money and energy to the school.
