Multiple courses during summer? (difficulty)

I am currently enrolled for summer courses at UCLA with a total of 14 units. 5 for session A, and 9 for session C.

I have not taken multiple courses during the summer before. Can taking two simultaneous courses during session C be overwhelming?

The courses for session C are Principles of Economics and Introduction to Global Studies.

I am unfortunately stuck in this situation due to poor planning, and must take multiple courses for the summer in order to have a manageable number of courses for the Fall.

I can’t speak for those classes, but I have found summer sessions to be much easier in general. Partially because of reduced reading, but mainly because it is so much easier to concentrate on 2 classes at a time than 4-5, and it’s a lot easier to study things you have learned in the last 5 weeks for the final as opposed to 16 weeks during a regular semester. I have taken 8 units lower division in six weeks at UCB with success and right now I am in the middle of taking two back to back six week sessions, 8 units each and I’m doing very well so far. But these are all classes I’m passionate about with no math involved, it may be difficult to do math based classes in a condenser amount of time.

I see, thanks for the input. I am curious if the simultaneous courses during summer are any different for quarter and semester systems.

Do it.

I took 4 courses (12 units) last summer at my CC:

 • Introduction to Ethnic Studies.
 • Introduction to Music Fundamentals.
 • Advanced Library Science Research.
 • Principles of Micro-economics.

Shannon13 is right in saying summer classes are generally easier. However, I can’t speak for UCLA summer session, as I’m speaking from a CC perspective. Personally, I find that summer session is a great time to knock out pre-reqs and/or raise your unit count so that fall will be better for you.
