How difficult is this class for someone who has no prior experience with music/notes/other musical knowledge?

very easy. Easy A guaranteed provided that you just go to every lecture and take GOOD notes.

if you look at the old home page online, the lecturer sure makes it sound like you'll get an A if you want one.

At the beginning of the quarter, I told you that if you came to class, did the reading, took the quizzes, and wrote your reports, you would do well. A great proportion of you did very well. Congratulations.

I also said that if you demonstrated extra effort in the quizzes, took advantage of the voter extra credit, and/or did anything else for the benefit of the class, you would be rewarded. Furthermore, in one of the later classes, I told you that anyone who didn't already have an A by the final exam would undergo a complete review to see whether the grade could be raised anymore. About 55 of you fell into that category, but only about 5 had demonstrated the kind of dedication I expected to see to merit the benefit of the doubt (i.e., all quiz scores present; a willingness to answer more questions than required; all papers complete and well-scored, a general commitment to timeliness, etc.). If you had incomplete quiz scores, poor attendance, or missing papers, it was impossible to justify raising your grade, but it was not for lack of trying on my part.

the fact that you have no prior experience does not matter. the class is taught in a way so that even those with a musical background don't draw from their prior musical knowledge at all.

and the class is really really easy. i'd be surprised if there was an easier class at ucla...

hey cheese cake did you take it with cheng.

i took it with rutenberg but my friends who took it with cheng said the same thing. although, they also thought she was really boring. the TAs for this quarter are the same, though. i dont even think they really read our concert reports; they pretty much hand you an automatic 100% unless it is really atrocious.
