Music 20A: Do I actually have to sing?

I was looking for a course that satisfies the arts breadth requirement for L&s and music 20a came to mind. But do you actually have to sing? I'm a terrible singer, so I'd be pretty embarassed.

I believe that in the description for Music 20A, it says sight singing will be covered, so yes, you will learn to sing. That is the reason why I dropped the class after 2 days, as I did not want to sing.

Yup… was going to do it until I saw that haha!

It doesn’t matter if you’re a terrible singer as long as you can sing the pitches right. I think the bigger question is are you comfortable singing in front of the class?

^I think that sums it up pretty well. I think most of us are too shy for that :(!

If you can sing the pitches right, then you can sing. Thus, you are not terrible singer.

Eh, I think I’ll try it even though I’ve never had any experience in music/vocals and I’ll probably be the laughing stock of the entire class.

does everyone get A’s in this class if you do all the work?

^ Depends on the GSI. If the GSI is bad, you should be able to sense it right away and drop the class immediately.

You’ll start off singing in groups, and not everyone can sing well (at least, in the class i took) so no worries, you won’t be embarrassing yourself! It’s all about learning and having fun, so don’t get to hung up on that part. It really is quite a fun course (although to get an A, you need to get the pitches and rhythm right – which is what they’ll teach you anyway, so come in with an open mind!)
