Music and theater at Brandeis

Can someone tell me more about the music and theater life at Brandeis - are there musicals each year? And how big a part of campus culture is the arts scene in general. Thanks.

The music program is great at Brandeis. I plan on attending this fall, and from the tour I went on last month the facilities used for music and theater seem to be great, especially the accoustically fantastic auditorium in the Shapiro Student Center. The music program was shapped by Leonard Bernstein, so I would assume it must be good. Being able to participate in an orchestra was a factor for me, and this opportunity is available at Brandeis. In terms of musicals, my tour guide told me that there are around 2 or 3 per semester, along with more small scale theatrical performances. From being at the school myself and from what my good friend who just finished his freshman year at Brandeis has told me, there is a pretty large art scene that plays an active role in campus culture.

There are so many opportunities for theatre at Brandeis. I'm a student there and it seems like there are shows almost every weekend. Last semester they did King Lear, Hair, Alice in Wonderland, Scenes From an Execution, Proof, the Vagina Monologues, Kiss of a Spider Woman (a musical) and more that I can't even remember. The level of each varies from some where everyone who tries out gets a part to acting in a graduate school production (which is a really special opportuniy because as an undergrad you can work with graduate and professional actors). In terms of music there a couple orchestras, choirs, and wind ensembles for undergraduates, some just for fun and others that count for credit. I hope this gives you an idea of what Brandeis has to offer.
