We just attended RPI's Music Association's BIG spring concerts at EMPAC on Saturday. We were quite impressed with the musical offerings at RPI. There's many students very involved and quite good musically. And, in the RPI spirit, if students want to form a group, they can get Student Union support if warranted.

It is also a great treat for students to be able to play in an acoustically designed hall like EMPAC. It is definitely accessible for appropriate student concerts, not just for concerts for/by outsiders.

Our son plays piano and he loves playing on the concert grand there. It is quite a bit better than what he grew up with. :-)

Yeah, its true, music is on the rise at RPI.

Slowly, students are getting to use the EMPAC facilities more and more.

Does your son actually get to play the pianos at EMPAC?

They have at least 4 top of the line pianos there, including a “wilindorfer” which is supposedly the most expensive commercial piano in the world. I play piano myself, but haven’t heard of anyone who has been able to practice on the EMPAC pianos. We are still stuck with the piano practice rooms in West Hall, which are kindof a disgrace compared to EMPAC.

My son has played on the EMPAC pianos, including last Saturday’s concerts. He’s in several of the campus jazz bands. I know he played a full concert grand on Saturday, but not sure which one it was. And concerts there involve practices there as well, at least the week of the concert.
