Music Business Acceptances???

Anyone hear back yet with acceptances/rejections from the Music Business Program? If so, what was your outcome? Stats?

I was going to apply to the Music Business program until i found out you had to sing 4 songs for the audition. wt f?

since when? are you sure your facts are right?

b.Next, sing a cappella (without accompaniment of any kind) a one-octave major scale ascending and descending, in any key.
c.Next, sing a cappella the traditional song, “Happy Birthday To You,” inserting your name in the line “Happy birthday dear ______.”
d.Next, perform two musical pieces in which you are either the soloist or have an obvious solo part. You may perform with an accompanist, your band, in a school performance, or by yourself. Remember, you do not need to be an advanced performer to enter the Music Business program.

Umm…these are the audition requirements from the current website for music business. As they state, they are not audtioning yo as a performer, but you need to have some musicality since you are going to get a BM in Music and need to take music theory, keyboarding adn aural training for 4 semesters.

I don’t think those are unreasonable requirements. I played in orchestra for almost a decade, and I can’t sing anything, but even I could manage these few things. I can manage a basic C-scale. For what it’s worth, many people I know in music business are musicians on the side. One in particular transferred from a music conservatory to NYU, but he’s an outlier.

any acceptances yet to the music business program???

bump…any news???

has NYU sent all their acceptances??? anyone out there get into the music business program?

what’s the difference between this Music Business program and the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music?

It is in the steinhardt school and it is a business program geared towards management and promotion within the music industry. It is not a performance major.

Actually Clive Davis is not a performance major. As bluemath said Music Business is really emphasized on the business (hence the name) and I think it requires you to take actual Business classes (not music related) from Stern, although I might be wrong.

Clive Davis has a lot of emphasis on production, there’s also a lot of history & criticism, business and also a bit of performance. You get to choose from 4 different concentrations. Hit the Clive Davis website and you should be able to see the difference, you can even check out the courses available to get an idea of what the program teaches.

Anyone hear from clive davis!?

dubskillets// yeah, both “poncem” above and my sister got into clive davis.
